Possibly dead mainboard under Ryzen 5000

Hey guys,

i recently used my PC just fine one one evening (no heavy load) and the next morning it wouldnt turn on anymore. I have run out of ideas at this point but thought i could ask here for new ones before replacing anything.

- nothing happens when i press the power button or short the appropriate board pins, not even lights or fans including the PSU fan. I have enabled to start upon power restore but that also doesnt work anymore

- i dont remember whether thy system was set to sleep or shut down that evening

- i disconnected all cables from the mainboard and tried powering up the PSU through the ATX pin and that led to a spinning PSU fan and fan lights that are powered directly from the PSU

- the cmos battery does have a healthy voltage and the board reset doesnt change anything

- whether i have the gpu in or not also doesnt change the problem but because i dont even see error lights on the mainboard i dont think any other component could be faulty

- i dont see any faults on the mainboard, all components look just fine

 

I am running

- Ryzen 5 5600X (aircooled)

- MSI X370 gaming pro carbon (started with first gen ryzen)

- Zotac RTX2070 super mini

- Corsair Rm750x PSU

- two PCIe3 SSDs from Lexar and two WD HDDs

- Win 11 Pro

 

I hope for any thoughts on this but from my understanding the next step would be to try a different board.

You mentioned there's no error light or POST code shown on the motherboard, which might indicate a problem with the standby power circuit (which powers the board even when the system is off). If this is failing, the motherboard might not be getting the proper signal to turn on. It might just be easiest to replace the motherboard and rebuild. you are on the right track though you have done everything i would have tried.

CPU is also a suspect here. I have had a 5800X die abnormally and results in basically no POST issues like this.

Ok then i might search for my old r5 1600 to try that, thank you

Why not test another PSU ? This is the cheapest computer component after all
