I have been at college for the past year and after returning home for summer my internet went from 50-60 megabits down to around 10 with no change in service. The only thing that has changed is the location of the modem in the home.

I have a technician from the cable company coming on Tuesday to check it out and was wondering if there is anything I should insist he does to get my situation handled.

I was under the impression that digital signals either worked or didn't and that coaxial cable doesn't lose that much over the distance of a home.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as getting a technician out is no easy task.

your impression of coax cable lasting over a distance of a house is right, i mean, for a digital signal for tv over 20-30 metres is no major feat at all, my neighbor does it all the time. it could just be a splitter in the line somewhere thats causing your internet to drop off, if the copper line inside the coax cable starts to go black, it loses quite a bit of signal as well

I did however I want to be informed as to potential issues so I can be informed when dealing with someone who would rather not put the work in. Mostly I want to have potential problems known so I am not on the have you restarted it side of tech support.
