How to undervolt your CPU

Hi wanted to undervolt my CPU but not sure how would like some advice please?. Or is it not worth doing.

 

Pc specs are: 

 

AMD Ryzen 5 5600

Motherboard is MSI B550M PRO-VDH M-ATX

Ram is 32 gigs of DDR4 

GPU Rx 7600

Power supply is a MSI MAG A650BN Unit, UK Plug - 650W.

undervolting is generally a good thing however whether or not it is possible is down to what kind of mobo you have and if the needed settings are available and exposed to the user. Remember some mobos are limited with what kind of OCing you can do with voltage control usually inside that kind of menu.

 

The simplest undervolt is usually to find the cpu based setting labelled as vCore mode and vCore value.

 

The vCore mode will have a few different settings (override, adaptive, offset.....) - I tend to set mine to override and be done with it.

 

The vCore value will be a value in volts or mv and probably set to something like 1.3ish v or auto.

 

What you are trying to achieve is to lower this value while keep stability.

 

Try lowering it 0.05 increments and after each boot into Windows, run a few passes of a stress test tool like Cinebench R23 and a few games of your choice.

 

Keep doing this until you run into crashes after which stick with the last known stable settings.

 

Check youtube and search for your specific mobo model as chances are there will be a vid of someone doing this exact things so you can watch.

 

P.S. - always best to make sure your running the latest mobo bios.

@ChrisLoudon Hi have set Cpu core voltage to override mode and also set the override CPU core voltage to 1.3000v.

 

Do I keep lowering slowly down?.

Easiest thing is to configure PBO and CO.

Pbo curve optimiser set to -5 then stress test and then another -5 and test u till you fail then go back up one

Hi buddy, yeh, that's it but @Dedayog and @Ebony Falcon have probably got a better solution. I've only recently moved from Intel to AMD so completely forgot about PBO and Curve Optimizer.

@Dedayog @Ebony Falcon @ChrisLoudon I did try curve optimizer negative 16 but temps didn't come down and there was no performance as far as I could see unless I did something wrong.

Have a look at one of my previous posts. I asked a similar question as I'm new to AMD and a chap called @Hinjima was very helpful.

 

 

 

worked a treat for me on my 9800X3D. Got more performance and my temps dropped.

Hi everyone been at this two days lot of trials and errors but I did it manually in the bios tested it my scores seem decent what do you reckon could I go a little higher or leave it where it is. Attached pics

You're beating the reviews scores this site got, as well as frequency.  Temps are fantastic as well.  I'd be very happy with that result personally.
