I've had this 128GB Meta Quest 2 for two and a half years now but I've been trying to use it for PC VR for quite some time now. Here's what I found: Using Quest Link or Steam Link will make my computer overheat and blue screen almost instantly, Using Virtual Desktop works as wanted but everything looks like s**t but to be fair I have all the settings set to default. I want to play wirelessly but I'm starting to think it might be my internet as It's speeds fluctuate. Here's all the software I have on my computer: AMD Adrenaline Edition, fpsVR, Meta Quest Link, OVR Advanced Settings, Steam, Steam Link, Virtual Desktop Streamer, VRChat. I also have Steam Link and Virtual Desktop on my headset. If there's any settings I should turn on or off by default please let me know as well as if you have any recommendations on what of my applications I should use and how, thank you

Change your virtual desktop settings. Bitrate and quality settings. It should look about the same as it does on your PC.

The only application you should need to use is Virtual Desktop (bought on META store and not the Steam version), the Virtual Desktop Streamer App on Windows and SteamVR. That's it.

How do I figure out what to set the settings to?

How do I connect my headset to my PC then? I said Steam VR overheats my PC to the point where it blue screens. Are you suggesting I try a wired connection?

You will know if it starts to lag while playing. Adjust as you go.

The settings you change on Virtual Desktop will not affect the actual rendering of the game on your PC. So if it still runs at 90fps on your computer, but you have artifacts or lag spikes while moving around on your headset, lower the bitrate a tiny bit.

On windows, I have left everything on Automatic as far as Codec, runtime and gamepad emulation.

While on the headset...

Under Settings I have :
Environment quality : Low (if you only want games, you don't care for this, it's stuff outside of the games, like windows)
Frame rate : 90
Desktop bitrate 55 Mbps

Under streaming I have the following

Vr graphic quality : Medium (my PC ain't that good, I only have a mid range 6750XT, adjust to yours depending on how good your PC is)

VR bitrate : 50 Mbps

SSW : Always enabled

Sharpening 75%

Advanced option : Video buffering and increase color vibrance

Games looks fine to me. I played through Alyx and a few others with these settings. These settings works for me. They might not for you. Fiddle with them. If you are far away from your Wifi AP, it might not work that great. It is highly recommended to use Wifi 5 and have your AP nearby.

How does (Preferred Codec: H.264+) (OpenXR Runtime: VDXR) sound?

I'll try those settings, thank you.

I have 5g wifi, the router is two rooms away though. What I don't understand is how I can have my PC and headset running the same thing and have little internet errors besides the internet speed fluctuations.

Whats your specs? If its overheatjng and crashing well fix it. Thats the easy simple goto solution as well as saving your system from an earlier grave.

Sorry I'm a little lost. So only Virtual Desktop and Steam VR on my PC right? How to I connect my headset?

Ah shit, sorry. I messed that up.

You need Virtual Desktop on the META store. NOT the steam version.

Then you download the Streamer App on the Virtual Desktop website for PC.

https://www.vrdesktop.net

Look at info under Wireless version on the Right side.

For some reason in my head I thought you installed the streamer app on the headset...  Been so long, man...

Well, the PC will automatically switch its resolution to match the headset and then you have essentially "duplicating" it over to the headset via wifi to lose as little performances as possible.

It doesn't use your internet speed. It uses your LAN speed. It is all local. So as long as your router ain't complete rubbish and able to send and receive 1Gbps(1000Mbps) over wifi locally, you should be fine. Because the Q2 is limited to somewhere between 900 and 1000Mbps anyway. Don't remember the exact number.
