So, I built my first PC about a year and a half ago, and I’ve had issues since before it was even complete. While installing the PSU, it shocked me, but we booted it up, and it turned on and worked semi-well. I was having a few issues with drivers crashing and the screen going to sleep and never wanting to come back on. I tinkered with the software for a while, trying everything I could find and think of, but absolutely nothing worked. Still, it worked okay most of the time, so I kept putting it off.

Then, about a month ago, I wanted to fix the extremely slow boot time, so I enabled Memory Context Restore. After that, my PC stopped posting. It wasn’t until I left it unplugged overnight, tried to clear the CMOS, and used BIOS flashback that I finally got it to post again—but it was short-lived. Keep in mind, there are no POST lights that ever stay on during any of this.

At this point, I’m thinking it’s a bad motherboard, so I ended up buying a new one. That one came in, and I finally got it to work. It lasted about 8 restarts, but then I went to flip off the PSU, and it discharged a bunch of electricity. After that, it wouldn’t come back on. So, at this point, I’m thinking, 'Yeah, this is definitely because of the power, and I probably just fried this board.' I exchanged that board and ordered a new Lian Li 1000W Edge power supply. The power supply was also the only used thing in my PC since my brother-in-law’s PC wouldn’t work with it.

I got the power supply in yesterday, hooked it up, and it seemed to work great. I ran some benchmarks, did some restarts, and even played Apex after letting it update. But then, I left my PC running overnight to catch up on the list of game updates I needed to do. This morning, it was running, but I couldn’t get it to come out of the sleep state and wake the monitor up. I restarted my PC, and now I can’t get it to post again. I’ve tried it with other RAM too—no avail.

XFX 7900XTX, could be graphics driver or hardware failure related. I've had several XFX 7000 series GPUs need to be RMA'd for similar issues. I don't use XFX anymore because of it.

Do a CMOS reset and see if you can get it to post again. If you can try the steps below. If you can't it might be wise to take it into a professional. You could also try booting with the GPU removed and using the integrated graphics of the CPU.

Use DDU to uninstall the GPU drivers for your 7900XTX make sure to enable the setting within DDU to prevent Windows from automatically installing hardware drivers. Then use the remove and restart option for driver removal within DDU. Once done manually download the drive only for the 7900XTX. Test the system thoroughly, if it no longer has the issue re-download Adrenalin.

Disable sleep and hibernation as well. All sorts of issues are caused by Windows wonky sleep issues.

I attempted to clear cmos and boot and it didn't do anything currently I have the gpu removed and am using Integrated graphics. should I attempt to flashback bios? that's how I got the first motherboard temporarily working.

Is it posting with the GPU removed? Or no?

Ok, I'd try one stick of ram if you have haven't already, then maybe the flashback, you shouldn't need to keep re-flashing the bios, that's not normal. I'd give them a shot but it might be best to have a professional look at it.

I currently have one stick in it so I'll try moving slot's but I haven't done a bios flashback on this motherboard yet only on the previous two.

Give it a shot I guess. Three boards though? Are you using a surge protector or UPS with the system? Does your home have shitty power?

I'm using a surge protector I have the rest of my desk hooked up too. I mean the powers not great but my brother in law sits across from me and has never had these types of issues.

If you can't get it to post take it in to a professional. It's going to be much easier to have them figure it out, especially if you're going through parts like this on the system. Best to let them do it and do it right, then keep replacing stuff because you can't find the cause of the issue.

Yeah, I can’t get it to post. Would the Geek Squad be okay? I’ve heard mixed things about them and have been putting it off because of that

I wouldn't go with Geek Squad unless it's your only option. I run a local repair shop in a town that has a Geek Squad and I'm not sure if it's the same at all of them but my local one is dog water, they send most of their jobs off and have a two to three week timeframe for pretty much all jobs besides simple cleanups, they don't actually do the work in-store. I'd look for a local repair shop that has good reviews.

You could also check if the CPU, the GPU and the motherboard is getting the amount of power it needs. Maybe try a voltage detector or temporarlly change the PSU if possible.

OP's original post explains what they have already changed hardware wise and tested. Three motherboards and two power supplies have already been tested. I'd thoroughly read the original post and replies before making suggestions that have already been made, helps avoid confusion.

I got a call back from them today, and they said they couldn’t replicate the issue. However, they did some Windows updates. I haven’t picked it up yet, so I’m not sure if the problem persists. If it does, my best guess is that it’s either a power source issue or my Amazon HDMI cable.

That said, while trying to get them logged into my Microsoft account yesterday, I noticed that online it says my PC is running “Microsoft Core.” I’m curious—could that be causing any issues? I’m not positive, but I think I might have cloned the OS from my Omen laptop when I originally set it up.

After checking again, it looks like it no longer says “Windows Core,” so maybe they fixed that too?
