Quite a lot of people have been asking for LGA 2011 motherboards in a Mini-ITX form factor. While looking at 2011 boards today, I realised that the actual socket itself was massive compared to your average mainstream sockets such as LGA 1155 and LGA 1150. Like, extremely big.

Therefore isn't such a large socket impossible to be introduced to such a small form factor? Even with our current ITX boards even the chipset has to be downsized compared to it's mATX and ATX counterparts. What about the PCI-E x16 slot, the 24 pin and 4/8 pin plugs, etc...It seems like an unrealistic wish to me.

What are your thoughts?

I think JJ from Asus siad in one of the last WAN shows, that it would be possible, but rather expensive

I'm just saying that the actual socket itself is huge, I'm not talking about the features that will be thrown out the window with an ITX version.

That can't be ITX, from here it looks like a specialised form factor just for Shuttle that has the RAM slots and PCI-E slots custom oriented. It would be 17cm wide but longer in length.

Possibly, still, be fun to get hold of one to play with..

Definitely! If I remember correctly didn't the LinusTechTips editor (I forget their name) have one of these systems? Linus made a build log video where he built a system that replaced it.
