Hello,

I race drones (yes it's a thing) and also do some race control. For which I have a nice simple Dell Optiplex 7050 MFF that does the trick that runs the timing system (livetime).

I also want to live stream the event. It would just be an onboard feed of about six drones from a thing called a HDZero Event Receiver and a 1080p camera facing me, running through StreamlabsOBS.

So I'm looking at second hand PC parts just to put in a pelican or aluminium case.

£120 it's about my limit. What would be a good list of components for a reliable stream at 1080p?

I don't feel like I need anything fancy or particularly up to date. But if I'm wrong, please kindly correct me. But for Mobo, CPU, RAM and GPU (if needed). What would you recommend for a budget of around £120?

For streaming you do need some hardware power and simply put 120 pounds is unlikely to get you something you need. Unless you find a older used gaming system witha nvidia card there's littel chance. For streaming people use the gpu for encoding as it si MUCH better at it

Thank you that is really helpful. I have found a HP desktop that would allow a GPU (I have a spare 500w PSU i can swap in).

It runs an i-5 8500 and 16 GB of RAM. £75. Then if I throw in something like a 1080 TI would that be enough?

That £120 was a rough figure. But having a look at PC junkyard, you are totally correct I'm unlikely to get anything for that sort of price. So maybe £200 all in would be a better target?

I really appreciate your input, thank you.

You can get amd ryzen mini pc's for around 300 new that are well VERY portable and can stream.

The issue with getting a tower + slapping a gpu in there is simply put desktops aren't made to travel around and a gpu is SUPER easy to snap out of a pcie slot and wreck the pc.

So either a laptop or mini pc would be a safe bet

Yeah I certainly had the worry about the GPU being carted around in it. I was going to use a rise at cable and a 3D print mount but I do like the idea of a mini PC as well because then I can fit everything into the one pelican case.

I will have a look at the Ryzen mini PC in that case then 🙂 I am not too familiar with Ryzen though.

AMD has been hands down the best CPU maker for several generations now. They're pretty solid

That's good to know thank you. They do seem to offer generally better value for the money than Intel.
