Upgrading prebuilts

May not be as easy as you may hope.

 

ANything decent, you need to upgrade the motherboard as well.  We need to know exactly what model you have, to see what fits in it.

 

What PSU you have can help determine what GPU to get.

 

You may be better off building a new machine, depending what can work with that prebuilt you have.

You probably can only get an i7 for the CPU (one step up) but not a newer one because of motherboard restrictions. A new GPU should be fine as long as you PSU can do enough power (though I doubt it's the GPU that makes your PC slow). Also, does your computer have an HDD or SSD?

Honestly, it's not worth the money with something that old. For not much more you can get something a lot faster.

Those MB usually don't support newer CPU that HP never sold. The i7-7700k is the highest that LGA 1151 supports, but only if HP allows. 

 

MB and PSU are proprietary. Cooling likely bad. PSU likely not powerful enough for better PSU. And again, cooling not good enough. 

 

Best to build a new system and never ever buy an HP again.
