Hello everyone, I’ve had a new nVidia GeForce Gainward RTX 4070 Ghost Dual Fan for a month. The temperatures while gaming reach the stock curve of 74-76 and the hot spot 94-96. With my custom curve, I have temperatures of 72-74 and the hot spot 92-94. The fans are running about 10% higher than what Gainward sets in Expert Tools 2. My question is: Are these high values for this GPU, and is it a reason for a warranty claim. Case Fractal Design North XL.

What is your case fan setup?

Is your GPU vertically mounted?

Is there anything blocking airflow to it or under it or anything?

Are you runing it stock other than the custom curve?

In my PC case, I have 2x 140mm fans for intake and 2x 140mm fans for exhaust. The airflow is clean and unobstructed. The GPU is in the standard horizontal position, not vertically mounted. I let the default fan curve handle everything. Idle temperatures are 30-35°C, with the hotspot around 40-45°C, and the fans are in fan-stop mode during idle.

I reckon another front fan might help with GPU temps some but other than that the only thing you could probably do is take the card apart and repaste, or possibly, a little easier, take the fan shroud off and give each screw holding the cooler to the PCB a slight turn, maybe 1/8th or so, just a tiny bit so you dont risk cracking your PCB, just to make sure theres the right amount of/enough contact and mounting pressure

Unfortunately, I cannot interfere with the GPU as long as it is under warranty. It even has a seal from the manufacturer on the screws, and I’m afraid the seller won’t acknowledge any issues as long as it’s within a 20-degree Celsius range. I’ll keep monitoring it and see how it goes over time.

Add that extra front fan then, should also help with dust buildup as youll have a positive pressure setup

Also, just an FYI, and not sure where youre from but i know that in europe at least, they cannot deny you a warranty just because of a warranty seal being broken.

Oh and what CPU and cooler do you have OOC?

The CPU is a Ryzen 5700X, with temperatures around 65°C at 1440p gaming and occasional peaks higher. I'll try adding more cooling under the GPU. I checked locally, and they won't void the warranty for breaking the seal.

If you have a pancake style cooler (which i doubt with temps) it will dump heat in the surrounding area and the gpu might recirculate that. But yeah i reckon you have a tower so it should eject the heat towards an exhaust fan so you should be good. A third front fan should be all you need, update us with any changes you get if you want to with whatever you do, might be able to get a little further again, but honestly temps seem okay, a little on the high side but under any critical temp limits so you should be all good
