Hi I'm a newbie at pc building and I don't really know the difference between between these motherboards so I really wish all of you could enlighten me, any how here's my list of mobo in my price range.

-B550m.

•Gigabyte b550m ds3h
•gigabyte b550m aorus elite
•Asus prime b550m a (or k whichevers better)
•Msi b550m a or pro vdh wifi
•ASRock b550m phantom gaming 4

-a520m

•msi a520m a pro
•gigabyte a520m ds3h v2

The obvious answer would be the b550 boards however there is a caveat if I choose a b550 board I'd have to downgrade my chosen ram from 16gb to 8gb and I would not be able to get a new case ( I do have a case although its a terrible case with only 2 80mm fans) I'm pairing the mobos with a Ryzen 5 3600 (non x) and an rx 590 so I don't really know if the more advanced vrm of the b550 board would be useful I'm also not looking to upgrade in the near future and If I do have to upgrade il probably just skip to the next big socket

And as for b450m I haven't gone down that rabbit hole yet as I've read that a520m mobo are just b550m mobo but downgraded so I naturally just thought that they have better vrm than b450 do correct me if I'm wrong tho, as for usage I don't do that much of heavy gaming maybe some cod campaign here and there euro truck sim, genshin.

Thanks in advance.

Nope. Honestly both generation in hindsight doesnt really offer that much of a difference. Sure M.2 slot availability is better at 5xx series chipset, but for micro budget builds people are sleeping on B450 because of the pcie 3.0 limit. Issue with this argument is that a lot of budget cards are still 3.0 x16 anyway so it doesnt matter.

Let me know of the market for that board. Also i recommend you to expand your search for ATX board and case, sometimes there are that one or two stray ATX board and case thats cheaper than its mATX counterpart.

If you need to downgrade he ram to 8gb, absolutely go with the 520. BUT you probably have other options like b450. What is your budget and where are you located? (general country is fine)

*DO NOT USE 8 GB* it will be a painful experience.

B450m(gigabyte b450m k) prices In my region lie in the middle of an a520m and b550m with the gigabyte b450m 5 to 8 dollars more expensive than the msi a520m then compared to b550m they are about 15 usd cheaper than the cheapest matx phantom gaming 4 on the other hand atx b550s like the phantom gaming 4 are as expensive as they are in Amazon(130$) sometimes being occasionally 15$ cheaper.

I lived in the Philippines, my budget is around 17 to 18 thousand pesos so that's around 290 to 310 usd ram cost like 15$(8gb) 30 to 35$ if I go for 16gb mobo cost like 107$ if I went full atx psu I went with the msi mag a550bn (50$) and then as for GPU I went with an rx 590 sapphire pulse which cost about 100$ used and then the cpu which cost 40usd maybe 50 these are before shipping cost which fills the rest so about 15 for shipping.

I see, so it wont be cheaper either way. If youre very sure that nothing can be found cheaper then A520 it is. Its just not a good time trying to run windows at 8GB.

Between b450m and a520m mobos, more specifically.

•Asrock b450m hdv r4.0

•Msi b450m pro max ii

•Msi a520m-a-pro

•Gigabyte a520m ds3h v2

Which one of these would you recommend?

I would suggest one B450m, generally they have more robust VRM design anyways

All 4 is crappy either way in VRM, the better reason to go with the B450 (pro max 2 in particular) is for the proper RAM overclock support so we can get off 2666MHz or atleast tighten the timing. And access to PBO is also nice.
