Hello there,

I am looking for guidance and recommendations and easy to understand setup. Ideally I want a KM with audio. I don't need/want video swapping as I just toggle input on the shared monitor (once a day). I would really appreciate any help/guidance and any links etc. of things to checkout. I am not clear how to send audio from my desktop & laptop to a switch and which ones will do what I want. Thanks in advance.

My setup.

  1. Desktop with two monitors (Display port for both).
  2. Laptop attached to one of the two monitors (HDMI).

My goal:

KV + audio switch connected to both the desktop and laptop via either USB-C or USB-A.

  1. Keyboard (USB-C)
  2. Mouse (USB-C)
  3. Microphone (USB-C)
  4. Wired Headphones (3.5mm)

Your easiest option would be to use a monitor KVM with built in audio and then feed the audio from the monitor into speakers or a DAC.

You can use a basic usb switcher for the peripherals. I have a $15 usb 2.0 switch from years ago still going today for keyboard/mouse and webcam.

For audio you can save a buck on hardware plugging your headphones into the monitor if it supports it. You might need to manage the volume through the monitor this way however.
