Hello Guys, (not a native speaker so sorry for my english)

My setup contains a rtx 3080 12gb version, ryzen 9 5900x, 500gb ssd, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING motherboard and a 850 W psu and 32gb dram.

I do have the latest drivers for everything, to my knowledge at least. Every game works fine except for some stutters that dont bother me.

My Question: I play performance mode and the lowest settings in fortnite and i dont get consistent fps and some hard stutters when i fight. my cpu peaks at 73 degrees maybe with the default amd cooler. is it that i dont have a better cpu cooler or is it something else. Thank you very much in advance.

73c is not dangerously warm and does not cause slowdowns.

You do mention that you have a default AMD cooler, the 5900x does not come with a stock cooler.  What you actually have?

Under heavy load, that cooler will not keep the 5900x within safe tempatures.  The 5900x is a more power hungry than the 3600x.

In gaming it might be okay as you mention 73c and this is safe.

try capping your fps to your monitor's refresh rate. You can't see more than that anyways.

5900X on a stock AMD cooler urgh, you're shooting yourself in the foot!!

Get a decent cooler...

If you're a FPS player the 5900X isn't very good anyway, get a 5700X3D instead, performance would be way better and the crappy cooler may even work decently then !

The CPU is clearly thermal throttling significantly, otherwise it would be running much hotter than 73.

The Wraith Stealth is a 65W-rated cooler, which is insufficient for a 5900X. The Assassin King 120 SE is a decent 200W that goes for 20$, use that instead.

The 57X3D has a 140W PPT. The Wraith Stealth wouldn't hold it back as much but the CPU would still throttle plenty.

140W on a 5700X3D is max PPT on all cores load, in gaming it's less than half of that

Weirdly 140W is also the non OC PPT of a 5900X, but it runs better at 200W (and then can go up to 230W but it's mostly wasted energy)
