APUs aren't worth it anymore as you need fast RAM but RAM prices have doubled since 2012 so you'll spend the same amount of money on a APU rig as you would one with a discrete GPU that's more powerful.

Not what hes looking for even though i agree with you..

I want to know, because im AMD Fanboy :P

Whats your opinion guys?

now on topic, I do apu builds for friends on a crazy tight budget where they cant afford to factor in a graphics card, If there is a graphics card going in the system then i wouldnt even consider an apu ill grab a crosshair v formula z and an 8320 with a decent cooler and do some oc'ing

Why in the world would you go straight from a cheap apu to a build with a $220 motherboard? And why would you get a super nice motherboard and put an 8320 in it?

because the 8350 really isnt worth the extra cash imo and i dont really consider the crosshair to be all that expensive. Most of my friends family and whoever i do build for are either trying to squeeze something crazy cheap together or have a couple grand to spend and go with intel anyway. ive only done 2 amd builds and regardless of board and chip i still hated them with a passion

Very good point.

However I would wish that I was more aware of APU´s back when I was doing a low budget build, that would have saved me a bit of money in the first face before I could afford a descent GPU. They seem ideal for doing builds that can grow with time, more then a big-budget done deals.

.. As for the trolling

So an APU then?  B)

I mean, considering it's on sale fairly regularly for $10-20 more than the 8320 and it's higher binned, I'd say it's a relatively decent decent investment. And with the Formula-Z being ~$230, and the Sabertooth and Extreme9 both being ~$170, you're saving 60 dollars by not getting that board, but still getting something of quality. Even if you don't get the upgraded CPU, it's waaay less worth the extra money.

Yeah i usually dont pick the mobo so they get the color theme they want, 9 in 10 builds i do are all intel based, the few amd builds i did they were always dead set on the crosshair cause they wanted the rog branding and red and black color theme, i prefer the sabertooth line when i can get them personally

even going with an athlon X4 750K or 760K and a dedicated graphics card (r7 265 or r9 270 for example) makes more sence than spending 169$ on an APU...

i would save the extra cash and wait to get that or even an FX-6300 build.

I dont think op was lookign for a build, he was looking for peoples general thoughts.

cheap build-fx6300+best gpu you can afford+m5a78l-m/usb3 board if you like matx, if you want full atx get a 970a-ud3p.

bit more money, 8320+best gpu you can afford and 970a-ud3p.

wanting to sli/cf with even more money, as above but with a 990fxa-ud3p (or equivilant £100 board)

want all the bells and whistles? as above but with a 990fxa-ud7 or ch5f-z

willing to spend 150x more on the cpu for 0-20% more performance? 4770k and equivilant board.

doing REALLY heavy rendering work but still wanna game-2011

doing production work and dont care about gaming as much.....you probably know you NEED dual xeons and WS grade cards t this point

as for ram prices, high speed ram hasnt changed but instead corsair vengeance and other 1600mhz ram has nearly doubled but it just means that more people are buying faster ram instead which gives more validity to apu builds like the 7850 and 7770 apu's which are more than just apu's they are ready for HSA, huma and other technologies that will come around, you could theoretically have your quad core cpu part for running the game with your graphics card doign what it does and the igpu recording gameplay and transcoding it all on the fly so that once you end the game its already transcoded waiting to be uploaded to youtube,  if it was possible RIGHT NOW id of chosen it over my 8320 and if ina year or so ill be selling my rig and be putting a 7850k in this...

msi-a88xm-gaming_slideshow_main.jpg

with an msi r9-270 (with the possibility of crossfire) maybe a h100i or something inside a corsair 350d/450d, now tell me that woudlnt be a badass but simple-to-build rig
