PC "Upgrade" Dilemma

Go to solution Solved by SpookyCitrus,

Sounds to me like the thing you're most concerned with is your ram amount. If so just buy a 64GB kit of ram for your current setup. It would be cheaper than doing a complete platform swap, plus the 5700X3D isn't that much better, they're more on par with each other, it wouldn't be an upgrade, they flip flop depending on use case, if anything it's more like a sidegrade that takes away all future upgradeability. But you do you. People make their own decisions, if you don't want to listen to people with actual experience it's on you. You could be extremely happy going that route, and that's great, we're just letting you know the downsides so you're at least informed of what you're doing. It's on you to make the decision.

Budget (including currency): 400 500 euros

Country: Italy

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: games and workloads

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):
Hey everyone guys my pc currently has a ryzen 5 7600x, 32gb ddr5 ram 6000mhz and a b650 msi gaming plus paired with a rtx 4070super and i am kinda on a dilemma, basically i have the option to sell to a friend my CPU RAM and MOBO for 450 euros and i was thinking of downgrading to am4 to a ryzen 5 5700x3d paired with 64gb ram or could squeeze in a intel 14th gen 14600k or something a bit lower to stay under the 500 euros budget, question now is would this be a bad idea going from am5 to am4 i already know about future upgrades and support of am4 am5 ecc and i wouldnt have bothered that much with upgrades till am6 anyway xD. I could really use 64gb of ram and some more cores thats the main reason im even thinking this.
Thanks in advance for your help

I wouldn't do it. Unless you'd be making money doing it, I don't see the point.

5700x3D isn't faster than 7600, they're even, 5700x3D just has 2 more cores, but it's not faster

why wouldnt it make any sense tho overall the 5700x3d is better its not like i am going to upgrade the 7600x at least untill am6 comes out lol, only upside i see for the 7600x is the AM5 platform and ddr5 rams but is it that big difference?

Except it's not flat out better. There are plenty of games where 7600X beats 5700X3D and vice versa, it's side grade at most with complete removal of future possibility to upgrade.

it's essentially losing the chance upgrading later to 7700/9700/any x3D AM5 CPU, if you switch to AM4
