That rumor is based on the fact that Intel didn't release Meteor Lake on the desktop (which was going to be the first series on Socket 1851) and went straight to Arrow Lake.

 

The idea is that Intel's Panther Lake was always slated to be on a different socket, and so Intel is just going to keep right on moving forward as if it isn't weird at all to have an entire socket generation only receive a single CPU generation.

 

None of this has been confirmed by Intel. Information about Panther Lake is scarce.

 

However, the whole thing is a moot point: outside of some productivity workloads, the 200 series is a dud, so there's no point in investing in LGA 1851 and hoping that Panther Lake is going to save it. You would just wait for Panther Lake to launch anyway.
