Hi,

Looking to build a system with a 14th gen i3 and a cheap B760 board but am concerned about out of the box bios support for 14th gen, should I go with a Gigabyte board to avoid any issues since they can be flashed without a CPU fitted ? (Q-Flash Plus) or will a 14th gen CPU work enough in any B760 board to flash bios ?

From a quick scoot around on reddit and the like, it looks like you can get boot problems if the BIOS is old, so I'd recommend either a motherboard that has support because it has been updated (e.g. a "II" or "V2", or a model that was introduced with or since 14th gen), or as you said, get a board with flashback.

I would go with a board with BIOS Flashback, it doesn't have to be from Gigabyte as basically every manufacturer has some version of it that they put on their motherboards. Odds are the B760 board you buy will have support out of the box, but it's still possible to get a board that doesn't and it doesn't really cost any extra to get a board with this feature than without.

I'm not sure I'd recommend going for a 14100-based system though unless you need the iGPU when a 5600X based system is about the same price, faster, and has a better upgrade path.

I don't see any other manufactures calling out a similar features to Gigabyte's Q-Flash Plus on the product pages for the boards I am looking at which are cheap (around £100) B760 matx boards.

Reason for 14100/B760 combo is I need a DDR5 platform and I need it cheap, I also do indeed need igpu. Current Gen Ryzen 3 is not available so that leaves me with Intel.

MSI has the Flash BIOS Button, ASRock and ASUS call it BIOS Flashback. They don't put it on every one of their motherboards, but they do all have an equivalent. You might be better off going for a Gigabyte board, but it isn't the only option.

Looking at pricing though, most of the boards you should consider on LGA 1700 are Gigabyte though, so this isn't super likely to matter anyway.
