Linux Day1 and learning how to get games working has been a whole mess. From messing with different versions of proton, to getting portproton to realising that the distro ships with Lutris. Setting up a separate games drive was also a whole thing. Anyways, I'm assuming Lutris will hopefully be the end of all of this and I should be alright for now. In any case, do I need to worry about games that require a 3rd party launcher? Like Far Cry 3 and GTA IV for example.

Third party launchers have never given med any problems after I got the games working. Bethesda, Rockstar and Cities Skylines are launchers I have used recently. EA game launcher is the one that give med headaches every time they update the launcher.

Strong opinions on unnecessary topics.

you really need to use steam or gog for linux games. i gave up bothering with wine and whatever hacky stuffs on linux to run games nowadays.

I'm sorta getting the hang of Lutris but there's been occassions where an app doesn't run and I just move on to the next. Steam is REALLY good at getting games running tho.

Two Steam games I play has their own launchers, Cyberpunk 2077 & Baldur's Gate 3. The launchers run just fine and so are the games proper.

I also play Genshin Impact, which is not a Steam games and has its own Hoyoplay launcher, that I installed through Lutris. Runs & plays just fine too...after some trial and error the first time around. (Also it has anticheat, but the devs loosened it for Linux quietly.)

I can but I won't. I am tired of fighting against the softwares to make them run. Try it, doesn't work, trash it, move on.

Games usually quite easy to make it run with Lutris, not software though.
