Looking for pc speaker recommendations

Hey, guys!

 

Looking for either a good set of smaller pc speakers or even monitors for my setup. I had a soundbar someone gave me that stopped working and looking for something to replace it with. Not super urgent as I have headphones and headsets. Wanted to see what you guys would recommend. Not necessarily looking for audiophile stuff, but wouldn't say no to good bang for the buck products if I find something good. Budget would be around $250, but willing to spend more, agian if it's a good bang for the buck.

Good price, though I am struggling with the Volume knob on the back.  Are they 4 inch?  I missed where it said size.

They are 3 inch radiators and a 3/4 inch silk dome tweeter. It’s for an intimate table setting where you are sitting in front of it. For this price they are really really good. I’ve been impressed with the bass output for how small they are. No doubt a front port is very helpful with that. You can also push it as far back as you want without coloring the bass. The treble is also impressive bc it cuts the harsh loud noises. We just started using them for our living room tv and they are a million times better than sound bars. 
 

I agree with you about the knob, but I haven’t touched mine since I bought them. I was worried about it when I bought it, but I set them to 50% and use windows to control volume. It makes more sense from a “clean minimal” perspective. You could also get a potentiometer if you wanted serious volume control. Emotiva used to make a super cool product called the control freak. Idk why they stopped.

So equivelant to the Mackie 3's then.  Which are $99 too, so they're in the mix with others of similar size/performance.

 

My issue is that some of the movies and TV shows I get have lower volume, so a front knob is nice.  Otherwise, as you say it's easy to control thru Windows.

Fyi don’t confuse these with the A2+. They are the same spec wise and size. Slightly different looks. But the A2+ has more IO and binding posts instead of spring loaded slots. But they cost $270. It’s not worth the increase if you are going to connect to a PC.

Yes definitely a lot of similarities between them. I suspect both are pretty good. I’ve never owned the Mackie’s but I always hear good things about them.

100% agree.  Moving up to active monitors was definitely worth it, over the 5.1 Logitech setup I had previously.  

 

Only "computer speakers" I would use these days are Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's if I wasn't using monitors.

You all seem quite interested in speakers.

 

What is the farthest distance you can space them, at the limits of your speaker cable?

 

Try dropping bass, 100 hz down to 30 if your eq has it

 

And slightly step up both 250 and even more so 400-500 hz range, then slightly reduce treble just under the mids, and above the bass.

 

It helps playback snare drums more powerfully and cranking up the amp allows them to really jam.
