Hey guys!

New to building and having a little bit of issues. I am doing a budget build for my nephew and when buying a CPU the guy had a GTX 1660 that he gave me for $25. He said it had some issues displaying and when I got it home and tested it the card displays but it has some artifacts on the screen. I have seen that possibly putting new thermal paste or updates may fix it but wanted to see if this is worth it or if I should just keep looking for a different card and what recommendations you guys have.

Thanks for the future help!

I'd check the thermals on it, overheating Vram can cause artifacting. However, if it's not overheating and still artifacting it's likely just failing Vram.

For this kind of testing you will want to use a program such as MSI Kombustor, rather than monitoring it while actually in-game.

If artifacts even when idle at the desktop with nothing running, you just got yourself a $25 paperweight

Because it cannot possibly be facing heat or instability issues at idle.
