XFX any good?

Go to solution Solved by Moosie,

Yo guys,

My friend wants to buy an XFX R9 290 and is wondering are they any good, reputation etc. They don't seem very popular.

Thanks,

BenestoTech

XFX is great. Their PSUs are Seasonic rebrands, and their double-dissipation branded graphics cards and cards with model names ending in R have lifetime warranties if you register within 30 days.

They're okay. As I recall, the coolers are kinda noisy. Might be wrong though.

Just check out the reviews on whatever you're getting. I normally look at helpful reviews, longevity, durability, etc. :)

Yep! And before the 7000 series, they were double-lifetime. Meaning you got a lifetime warranty, and the first person to buy it used (like if you sold it on ebay) also had a lifetime warranty. But obviously that wasn't sustainable.

They also were one of the few companies that let you keep your warranty if you took off the heatsink (but only if you lived in North America). I think this policy has gone the way of the dodo as well, but with the 7970 cards you could still get it if you called them up and asked (even though there were "warranty void if removed" stickers).

I asked an XFX support person, and they said that in North America, you can remove your HSF and still warranty it out as long as you send it to them in it's stock configuration.
