Hey dear LTT Forum members, I need help:

I built a PC for a friend of mine, everything was great, i configured and built it, he was extremely happy and after a few days, he noticed the performance in games like GTA V doesn't line up anymore with what he should get with his components. Here are his specs for context:

- AMD Ryzen 5 7600

- Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX

- Gigabyte Radeon RX 7800 XT Gaming OC 16G

- be quiet! Pure Rock 2 FX

- be quiet! Pure Base 500 FX

- G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32GB (2x 16GB) DDR5 6400MT/s, CL32

- Kingston Fury Renegade 2TB SSD

- Corsair RM750e

When he starts the integrated Benchmark of GTA V with a mix of Very High/Ultra Settings on 1440p, he gets an average of about 170fps, with almost always 187fps (which is the max of GTA V's Game Engine) and a 1% low of about 80fps, everything is great until he plays himself. 51fps with dips of 20fps. Even with the lowest settings, its still the same, if not worse, which is just painful for a 1200€ PC. In FurMark, its about the same (~51fps) even though it should get so much more. Please help us we are completely out of ideas.

Thanks for your help already, Mika (mistercookie447) and David (JevilThatGuy)

Yea Red Dead Redemption 2 for example runs great with about 140fps on almost the highest settings but in general, the system is very unstable and games crash often

But that's another problem than bad performance...

If you have setup EXPO at 6400CL32 there's a good chance it isn't stable, try without and then try say 6000 or 5600MHz

Disable XMP/EXPO as others have said, I'd also say to make sure the drivers are all up to date including the bios. Make sure to manually install the drivers from the manufacturer webpage over letting Windows Updates get them.
