Recently built a new gaming pc centered around the ryzen 7 5700G.  Everything worked pretty well and smooth in setup and what a relief for 2cnd time, it was the charm.  I was so enthused with the performance of the chip that had to upgrade to the Ryzen 7 8700G.  Only catch was then realized had to buy all new motherboard and RAM for the newer AM5 platform.  After saving and budgeting, eventually the dream became a reality.  However, to save some $$ decided to just transplant the NVME.2 SSD from the R 7 5700G.

Everything went fairly well with installation and setup and downloaded latest bios upgrades from the MSI Center pop up.  Only issue though is noticing the long boot up time.  The "slower" Ryzen 7 5700G build only took/takes 15-20 seconds before login screen displays and the Ryzen 7 8700G takes a minute or more!  Maybe I'm too used to Apple MacBooks  but is this remotely normal?  I would have though a faster chip would have the same or faster boot up speeds.  Is it possible there are some conflicts going on with the drivers?  I didn't do any SSD drive wipe or clean up before transplanting and it had the drives installed for the 5700G from the different motherboard (though still MSI)?  Also, often I'll still get a Project Zero flash up on screen during that 1-minute boot up time before Windows pops up, is this normal?

I can live with the 1+ minute boot up time but hoping it is an issue with too many drivers installed.  I've never done a BIOS flash because the CPU was recognized straight away by the motherboard and all parts new.

The specs of 8700G build:

B650M Project Zero motherboard

G.Skill 32GB (2 by 16GB)

MSI M100pz case

Windows 11 Home

Drivers can definitely cause issues. I would recommend a windows reinstall. you could also probably run DDU and reinstall your new graphics drivers since your old drivers for the 5700g might still be on your SSD.

Thanks for tips.  I didn't end up running the DDU mainly because it said in the fine print its best used when removing the old drivers manually doesn't work.  Thus ended up removing them manually and the chipset drivers too.  Then I flashed the BIOS to the latest and confirmed and then re-installed the drivers for the 8700G using AMD adrenaline software.  Everything seems OK however now the boot time is 1 minute and 40 seconds! 😔

I guess I could try to uninstall and re-install Windows however doesn't that mean I'd have to then re-install all the drivers and chipsets too?

The only thing that gave me a little solace that I didn't get a dud motherboard or completely screwed up installation is checking more reviews.  It seems this motherboard is notoriously known for super long boot up wait times.  Guess there is some comfort knowing I'm not alone.
