This is a motherboard I found for the Prime sales going on atm, wasn't sure if the deal was too good to be true or not. The standouts to me were the BIOS flashback button and WiFi. The CPU I'm looking at for my future build is a Ryzen 5700X3D, GPU 6750 XT. Probably good to mention that I cringe at the thought of spending more than $100 on a motherboard, but this seems a slight enough increase that it doesn't bother me as much. Thoughts?

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-B550-PLUS-Motherboard-Flashback-Addressable/dp/B09K4QMPL9/ref=sr_1_1?sr=8-1

Also, did the ASUS motherboard stuff a while back affect TUF, or are they unrelated? Someone able to give a quick rundown of what the main issue was?

The main issue for ASUS motherboards were some voltage problems with the ASUS motherboard for the Ryzen 7000 X3D CPU's.  The main thing was how ASUS handled it, they did very very poorly in terms of support and communication.

A BIOS version has been released and it has fixed this issue, other motherboard manufacturers were also affected.

This does not affect the ASUS B550 AM4 motherboards 🙂

The ASUS TUF B550 PLUS is a good motherboard with good features, I absolutely love the BIOS flashback button.

Its definitely a safe purchase and will do very well with the 5700X3D.

Barebones B550 Motherboard is good enough to drive 5700x3D, VRM heatsink and premium features are just bonus points.

Are you getting complete new PC, or do you have certain parts? Perhaps do you already have AM4 Motherboard?

Correct me if I'm wrong: the BIOS flashback button is if a BIOS version I install to the motherboard has issues, so I can roll it back easily, yes?

Also, freaking love the pfp 🤣

I have a laptop 🙂 barebones works great for me lol.

The idea is to build a new PC - I have no components other than a mouse, keyboard that's coming tomorrow, and a monitor.

That is correct. Its also there so you can update the BIOS without having a CPU or GPU installed, you just need motherboard power and the CPU power pin connected.

Its a great feature to have.

SPEED AND POWER!

Slightly lower cost and good option: MSI B550 gaming plus https://www.amazon.com/MSI-MPG-B550-Gaming-Motherboard/dp/B089CRF5XV

More or less identical is the MSI B550-A PRO and comes in below the magical $100 mark: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-B550-PRO-ProSeries-Motherboard/dp/B089CZSQB4

If you want ITX with WIFI: Gigabyte A520i (one of those boards with PBO on A520 chipset, might be "patched" but might be as well present in current bios releaes):  https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-A520I-AC-Interfaces-Motherboard/dp/B08F7BHDLY

I don't particularly care to get into AM5. Yeah AM4 isn't exactly "future-proof" but I don't need it to be. The platform suits me just fine for the games and tasks I'll be doing. Plus I can save some cash buying DDR4 RAM. Unless there's something really appealing about AM5 I'm missing?

I've looked at the first two 😂 Thought they were great except I could definitely use the WiFi. And I'm kind of skeptical of mATX. No basis or reasoning as to why but it just makes me think there's less features involved.

@Snakehide You can always install a wifi card in a PCIE-slot or use a good USB dongle (remark: GOOD, might cost $30 but they work great).

Those boards are ATX. Are you looking for mATX?

If you go mATX there is the Lian Li A3 as case option: https://lian-li.com/product/a3-matx/

This case is pretty great value for money. Gamersnexus review:

If you want more features maybe the MSI MAG B550 ... it comes with a second 2.5G ethernet port (once more the same PCB/VRM just a diffrent flavour): https://www.amazon.com/MSI-MAG-B550-TOMAHAWK-Motherboard/dp/B089CWDHFZ

One more ITX option at $100 I used myself for the 16 core Ryzen 9 5950X (same mainboard with B550 chipset for me | this A520 just lacks the PBO overclocking feature):  https://www.amazon.com/ASRock-A520M-ITX-AC-Processors-Motherboard/dp/B08G1WLVR2?th=1

Downside with this Asrock is that you wont run your RAM faster than approx. 3400MHz but that's not that big of a deal as the difference between 3400 and 3700MHz is minimal.

HardwareUnboxed tested a few motherboards. Results posted as table on reddit by somebody. 71° (MSI ...) and 76°C (Asus ...) won't make a difference for you even through MSI is technically better in this test.

I don't really see the point of getting an external dongle or a WiFi card when it's already included in the mobo I posted originally. Am I missing something?

Yes, I want to go ATX.

Could tell you that you can get an WiFi 6E or WIFI 7 card  (with the new 6GHz band) instead of the old WiFI 5 that is on the Asus motherboard and that it doesn't hurt to place them in the lowest PCIE slot on the mainboard as those on board cards are also just  the same module with PCIE (WIFI) and USB (Bluetooth). Equally upgrading the wifi card on those boards is nerve reckoning as those antenna connectors are very fragile.

The other part of why I wouldn't recommend Asus is my history with them: 1.) multiple design failures or other issues in the past  2.) completely unable to provide any technical support. Had to scrap Asus products because of that. 3.) them reaching out (Asus started the conversation) after the recent Asus outcry caused by GN. Never  got a reply back from them so I highly doubt they are interested in actually improving their support.

hat's why I don't recommend Asus if there are good alternatives and for AM4 mainboards there are.

7600 matches 5700x3D performance, that's the base appeal of the platform on top of it's more "future nature."

some mATX boards can be stronger than ATX boards, VRM wise for example, for CPU power handling,

Again, I'm not too concerned about future proofing. An AM4 CPU will suit me fine.

Mostly need WifI because, while at school the router is literally next to my desk, at home it is not, and I would like the flexibility of having WiFi.

Are you sure? 7600 is similar performance of 5700x3D - fastest gaming AM4 CPU?

But either way, what's your use case for the PC?
