SSD parts swapping

Should I expect to receive a drive with the same components as reviewed when released? I was considering Adata Legend 960 Max and XPG Gammix S70 Blade, but after reading about XPG SX8200 Pro, I am reluctant to buy. Is it any safer in this respect, to choose a drive even at a higher price, from a NAND flash memory manufacturer such as Samsung and Crucial?

i have generally advised avoiding ADATA in general at  this point for drives. Not only have they had a bad reputation for what you mentioned, they are often one of the highest failure rate for SSDs for some reason. Each drive design will be different but man the amount of ADATA drives ive seen fail personally or on other repair shops/youtube channel is no joke.

so fun fact, crucial, and samsung also swapped components after some time, and well samsung had trouble even without it  (falling 128l nand node in 980, 980 pro, 970 evo, 870 evo, as well as firmware bug that was ruining NAND by rewriting it in 980 pro, and 990 pro) 

As for ADATA, unfortunately, the S70 Blade did in fact had already had a component swap, for a china NAND substitute.

if you want to buy one from adata, so far the XPG Gammix S70 Pro, and 960 / 960 max should be ok. 
They are identical, on silicon motion SM2264F + DDR4 + 176l TLC micron, no report on components swaps in them so far.

I don't prefer Adata than Samsung or Crucial, but for example 960 Max compared to 990 Pro is cheaper and from its specifications, it has better TBW and MTBF. But how reliable is it?

Does it have any advantage over P5 Plus apart from being a little cheaper and having a heatsink?

So P5 plus vs 960 max?

They are on the same 176l TLC micron nand. 
Both are on 8 channels 1600MTps controllers, but 960 max have just little stronger controller with 4 x R8 arm cores,  instead of 1 x R5 + 1 x M3 in p5 plus.

And 960 Max seems to have faster DRAM from Samsung instead of Micron. Is that heatsink really needed?

Dram speed shouldn't matter.

heatsink will help with any extended usage, as the ssd do get hot.
but that is, if you don't already have heatsink on your mobo.

 

what’s your use case for the ssd?

For normal use, p5 plus/960 max/990 pro will all be almost indistinguishable.

I am more concerned about endurance, so I could even buy a DRAM-less drive if the price difference is significant. How would for example TEAMGROUP MP44L compare to the above DRAM drives?
