So I have a 5600 X3D with an ID-COOLING SE-224-XTS cooler (cheap but reviews by Gamers Nexus and Hardware Canucks show good performance). While I'm playing a game, the temp will stabilize around 80 C. I kind of remember seeing something about them running hotter because of the thicker 3D v-cache but is this TOO hot or is it normal? Just want to make sure before I kill my CPU 😅

80 is quite hot while gaming, what's the idle temperature? My 7800x3D would run at about 50-55 degrees while gaming with a 280mm radiator.

Is the paste applied correctly? No sticker left under the block? Mounted correctly?

Yes thats normal. You can try reseating the cooler and check if the whole heatspreader is covered. Alternatively you can try setting a negative offset.

Edit: Read it as full load 80C. 80C in gaming is a little much as @Naijinmentioned.

Idle temp right now is about 41 C (room temp at 66 F) at about 10% usage just with Firefox and qBittorrent. As far as I know the cooler is seated correctly (didn't check the paste spread at first install), def no sticker under the block though, that I did make sure of 😂 I'll remove it and check the paste tomorrow. Max clocks is about 4.32 GHz under load and it draws like 99W (was just doing a Blender Benchmark earlier).

Thats a lttle high as well, could mean its not well seated. Check if screws of mounting hardware and cooler is tight when replacing thermal paste.

Yeah seems kinda hot though. I'd re-do the mounting, maybe even use a different paste. X3D chips are not very high TDP parts though.

you can try undervolting with PBO2, that's probably what they did when they got better temps than average.

Definitely too hot.  Here's my 5600x3d with stock 5600 cooler in a weak case at 72f ambient...

Case and cooler, then idle, then running Ark....

So this is what the paste looked like after checking it. I went to MicroCenter and got a Thermal Grizzly PTM pad, temps now stabilize at 77 C playing Apex Legends, 1440p, max settings. I should probably just get a better cooler if I want less temps 😂 pretty sure 77 C won't kill it, right?

Look at setting PBO/CO in the bios too.

Sorry to bother again but I just got a 5 pack of Arctic P12 fans for my case (I was just running the system without the glass panel on before this and the 2 stock fans that come with the 4000D Airflow case). Got a question about the fans though. They're not PWM, connectors only have 3 pins. Does this mean I can't control the RPMs at all and they just run at the 1800rpm on the spec sheet all the time?
