HELP ME BRING MY DATA BACK

Hey guys, so yesterday my PC randomly shoot off. I realized I have 2 problems. 1 problem is the CPU temps. It was a bit too hot... Btw, I am running a Ryzen 5 5600x, so I just repasted it, and it is much better now. The 2 problem that I have is that my HDD is failing. I think my windows shot off because it was trying to pull data that stopped existing and becouse of my CPU temps. I have been using that HDD for years now, I am talking like meaby even 10+ years. I have been manly using it as a bulk storage. I have family photos there, and I had some games that don't really benefit from faster SSD. Anyway now my HDD doesn't even show up in windows anymore, and I am afraid that all my files are lost. Do you guys know any way of restoring that data? I am aware that there are companies that do that as professionals, but they are in my opinion way too pricey. I am talking about like from 100 Euro if my fault is not that big and the price just keep climbing to realy steep prices in my country. So yea, PLEASE HELP ME.

Aside from expensive (like over 1000 euros) data recovery services, you're royally fucked. You can try flicking the HDD if it's making weird sounds (could fix say, a misaligned read head), but otherwise I'm sorry, there is no other solution. This is why you keep multiple backups.

Well if PC won't recognize drive you're kinda screwed. However...

 

If your lucky it may just be a cable or connector and some jiggling of the connections or a new cable may restore connectivity.

 

What you should do is make sure you are ready. Make sure you have alternative storage space ready so that if it does connect you can instantly start transferring the data.

 

If you are able to start copying the data I'd advise try and break it up into small chunks, eg one folder at a time.

Can you try to run crystaldiskinfo and do a screenshot of the Smart table.

Does it detect in the bios? Is the drive spinning up?

Well if you aren't gonna send it to recovery it's better then nothing. I've had good luck with this in the past.

The best way in restoring your data, is preventing it from happening.

 

Some general storage advise

  • Monitor the health of your drives, ie S.M.A.R.T.
  • The more writes you make to a drive lowers its reliability (see TBW on storage medium specs)
  • HDD wear out components like needles, motors. SSD's don't.
  • SSD's last longer than HDD in a read/write scenario, and SSD's must be powered on at least every 12 months (preferably 6 months) to maintain its stored data
  • HDD won't wear out if you only write the data once and not delete (rewriting data over it). Keep them in the right temperature/humidity environment and remained unplugged and powered off, unless of course backing up data.
  • For the above mentioned reasons have two drives, one for hot storage (an SSD) and one for cold storage (a HDD)

 

Objectifiable, everyone systems are different, but a suggested way to keep your backups

  • Hot drive synced automatically
  • Cold storage done manually, at the first of every month
  • Twice a year: an offsite backup, at a different physical location (like parents house or datacentre)
  • These backups can be as simple as an external drive using xcopy or elaborate as a DIY or consumer NAS that works over the internet/network).
  • basics have a hot internal, cold external drives along with an offsite OR onsite & offsite NAS with both hot/cold storage.
  • The frequency of data backed-up can be adjusted to your needs.

I don't think so, not even my disk managment can see it, I will try again today. yesterday was really late when it hapened and I work in early so I need to check everything when I get home

Uhh that doesn't sound good, as it’s likely the pcb controls board, or power problem (if it's not spinning). Not something to fix with any advice, or software, but do keep us updated.

I replaced connectors and even used difrent power connector . It did showed up but like program files folder won't even open. I need to see what elese can't be opened or is corupted. I imidietly just copied everything on another drive and now i will se what is usable and what is not usable.
