Hi all,

I bought a JBL Charge 5 and really enjoyed it except for the intermittent Bluetooth crackling issues it had. It was very clearly Bluetooth connection crackle because it would happen for like 10 seconds and then go away. To be clear my phone was less than 2m away and in clear line of sight. The speaker is also supposed to be able to connect to two Bluetooth devices at once but as soon as you connect a second device, it just starts crackling horribly and we’d scramble to disconnect one of them. So I took it back to the shop. I really liked the speaker but I couldn’t keep it knowing it has this fundamental design flaw. The guys at the shop didn’t even ask questions, they seemed to know the problem well. They offered a new one the same or I could switch to a different product so after much deliberation I decided to get a JBL Xtreme 4. It’s much newer than the charge 5 and supports Bluetooth 5.3 so I figured it must be better right?…. Wrong. It suffers from the same issue.

Some background. Im using an iPhone 15 Pro Max so I wouldn’t expect this to be causing the issue. I also own and use a handful of other Bluetooth audio products and they all work flawlessly. The only ones that crackle are the JBL speakers.

Does anyone know why the JBL speakers specifically have these Bluetooth issues that don’t occur with ANY of my other BT products?

My GF managed to get a video of the Charge 5 crackling but it was too long to attach here so I had to shorten it to just a few seconds. It shows the speaker making this horrible distorted crackling and then it just goes away.
