Upgrade vs New Build

I have been satisfied with my computer since building it. For a long time I didn't realize how much faster an m.2 NVMe drive is, so I had Windows 10 running on a Samsung 850 EVO SSD (SATA 6GB/s). I recently saw the MSI Ventus GeForce RTX 3060 on Newegg for ~$265-290 and was surprised to see GPU's with better performance at such a lower price (my 980ti was ~$680; however, I understand ~9 years have passed).

I believe I'm limited in upgrading due to my motherboard being PCI-E 3.0; however, I'm curious if anything is worth upgrading? (If not - are any parts worth keeping for a new build?)

Budget (including currency): ~$500 (USD) Up to $1k if there is value in upgrading (I don't see a need for a completely new build at this time; however, my budget would increase to ~$2k for a new build.)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Satisfactory, Far Cry, Fallout, Programming, Watching YouTube/Twitch, OBS Recording (not streaming/broadcasting)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

  • This is my current setup: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dKLD6D
  • Using 4 monitors
    • 2x Displayport Asus VG248QE 144hz
    • 2x HDMI 60hz monitors (Samsung and LG - not selected in PCPartPicker list)
  • I'm fine with 1080p, no need for 1440p, 4k, etc.

Any thoughts / opinions?

Is anything worth upgrading?

Yeah, keep the monitors, PSU, case, SSD.  Replace the CPU, motherboard, RAM, and GPU.  If you want to keep that GPU, you can just replace the Trinity and move up to AM5.

I don't think so, except if you were looking for a high end gpu.

If you're looking for something like a 3060 then you could keep that 6700K for now.

You could move to 32GB through an additional 2*8GB.

I'm willing to swim against the current.
