Tiny files take seconds to move

Hello there, I have a peculiar issue. I move small files (1-2MB or less) around my PC a lot and sometimes they take way too long to move. Not even copy, move!!

 

The computer:

HP laptop, i5 1135g7, 8GB RAM, 512GB SK Hynix NVMe SSD. 

 

The workload:

Scanner sends a file to the computer after scanning into a default folder. From there I move the file to its destination folder. I scan a file sometimes every couple minutes. One file at a time.

 

The problem: 

Sometimes the files take up to 30s to move. The first few scans move instantly as you'd expect. Around 5th or 6th scan they start getting slower, taking a few seconds. Then 15-30 seconds. The bar is at zero for 30s and then jumps to done. It happens randomly, cannot be replicated anytime, sometimes I scan 20 documents in succession and the files move instantly.

 

What I already thought about:

CPU usage is pretty low, SSD usage is also pretty low. It's not the scanner issus either because when it starts happening, it also happens to any documents already stored in PC when I try. I noticed it usually happens when RAM is rather full (80-85% usage). I am thinking of adding RAM and replacing the SSD for a better one.

Is this not related to some network shares, resources timeouts, as any component of your computer looks fast enough?

I am not sure how to check for this, but all files are within the computer, not stored anywhere else on the network

I mean that there are slow shares in File Explorer (file system) — mapped network drives or something like this...

 

You can try to use netstat (internal command) or wireshark to detect such access

 

Just an idea — disable LAN at all for your process, if my idea is right, timeout comes immediately, I think
