Thanks, found the PA120 on Amazon arriving tomorrow before 1 so hopefully will be all good. They only had the RGB version in stock, hopefully they are not too noisy. If they are I have some Noctua 120mm fans somewhere in a cupboard. My fault for being lazy and not checking the TDP, which is odd for me as I have been using computers since building a ZX80 and I have worked in the game for the last 28 years. Thing is, I work on enterprise stuff as well as a couple of mainframes. Desktop parts, what is available and its specs has just been off my radar for a very long time. Thinking about TDP in my environment is just not a thing.

After swapping out an AMS 2700x with a 5800x I seem to be having temperature issues and repeated crashing. HWINFO shows at idle my core temps average 35C but CPU CCD1 (Tdie) keeps peaking at 89ish and I am guessing going over that before the system crashes. So not 100% sure if I either have an iffy CPU or the AMD Wraith Prism cooler is just not up to the task given the warm location of this PC.

So what Noctua cooler would you recommend? Not interested in an AIO. The NH-D15 I am guessing is a bit overkill.

Yeah the Wraith Prism is too weak for a 5800X

You can get a Thermalright PA120 or PS120 for $40, much less expensive than a Noctua cooler, and performance comparable to a NH-D15

The peerless assasin 120 se is way cheaper, but performs almost the same as the NH-D15

Thanks. I shall look into those and see if they have them locally.

If not, let us know what is available so we can advise you.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

The cooler arrived and I am seeing a drop in temps of 15-20c under load. Fan noise is fine too so all good there. My only mistake was not connecting the two PWM cables before I installed the cooler as the connectors on the MB were a pig to get to. I have two headers for the CPU fans so didn’t need the supplied splitter.
