trying to pick this up for my kid.  But, i dont know why i can't find anything within reason.

I need wireless because cables a pain, and i want him to play on TV more, and not on the tiny screen.  I know basic earphones and stuff work, but i prefer to just keep him on wireless headset.

Any ideas?  The only one i found is corsair.. but its for adult size it says, and my kid's head is still small enough even my current kingson and logitech headsets dont fit him properly.

Dont understand why i can't buy wireless headphones for kids... for the nintendo switch.  Also, most normal wireless headsets do not enable microphone on the switch... as well as bluetooth is always kinda off in latency as well from my experience.

Am i missing something?  Do they exist but i just can't find it?

Thanks in advance

First if you’re kid is that young, I friendlily advise you to reconsider getting them a switch. It can rapidly turn into brainrot.

if you choose to ignore my advice, a JLab JBuddies Pro.

3 things here:

1: age of kid not defined.

2: perhaps this whole parenting thing is why OP wants the kid to play on the TV?

3: i'd say that of all electronic devices one could give to a minor, a switch might be the safest option? the majority of games available are very kid-friendly, and you may underestimate the value of video games to dexterity and logic skill. a lot better than mindless kids' tv shows at least.

---

on topic: while the switch is plugged into the TV, you can just use the TV as the audio source for the headphones. that way you can exclude switch support from your list of requirements, afaik the bluetooth on the switch is needlessly problematic anyways.

Wow judgmental. Plenty of kids grew up playing video games and they're all in their 30's and mid-40's now and doing just fine. It's all about having a good balance of activities. Even then, iPad kids are growing up okay.

(NES came out October 1985 which is nearly 39 years ago. Assuming like a 5yr old started playing from release day, they're 44 now)

1. If the kid needs special kid headphones, I’m guessing under 9.

2. Fair enough.

3. Wii U and earlier, sure. But the games on the switch tend to be freemium dopamine trash aside from first party Nintendo titles and a few others, not to mention some buffoon at Nintendo decided to let the YouTube app on there, which… need I say more?

As I said in the prior post, the game themselves are not a problem. I grew up gaming on a Wii U, and I’m fine. However on the switch you need to be very careful, there is a lot of trash ware catered at dopamine junkies.

Also, iPad kids are for sure fucked.

the nintendo DS had a webbrowser which could access early day mobile sites, allowing such things as tribalwars (freemium game), and mobile versions of MSN messenger.

it's certainly not a sudden change of heart with the switch, and the youtube app existing isnt anything to go by IMO. now, if this were tiktok, i'd be more worried.. but youtube still has a kids mode, and does any effort at all (however poor the result) to content moderate.

should i mention that wii "jerking off" game? trash has existed on every platform, and this might just be an indication you're getting old if you think the switch in particular is a problem.

also, i've been trying out some key words to find articles on freemium shyte on the switch.. and i find very little information about shitty games being popular at all.

maybe the "problem" is the switch is the first ninendo platform with more than 7 apps in its online store?

Yeah, but I doubt there was this much brainrot back then, from what I understand only nerds used YouTube back in the day.

No lol TikTok doesn’t even pretend it’s for kids it’s only incompetent parents letting their kids do it. YouTube pretends kids can use it.

Could not find a single masturbation related game online aside from a funny meme of some guy jerking off with the wiimote still in his hand and his SO could see that on the screen. Also I’m only 14 lol.

I think Nintendo shouldn’t let shit like YouTube on the store.

you're aware you're saying this on a forum tied to a youtuber right? like.. i'm not saying this is an opinion you're not allowed to voice here, but the concept that youtube as a platform is so flawed it shouldnt be anywhere near kids is rather.. shallow? it's a matter of parenting. i've had pretty much unmonitored access to the internet since i was 13 or so (parents solved infighting about the computer by buying more computers, and didnt have the tech knowhow to even realise they need to montior stuff) and that includes the early days of youtube, newgrounds, and whatever google could show me. but because my parents (deliberately or by accident..) have educated me well on what's out there (and let's be honest, schools exist.. it's not like the internet is our only access to garbage) so i'd like to believe i ended up quite well, despite having seen all sorts of parties regarding lemons, and things to do with girls, cups, and piano music way before i should have been seeing such things.

LinusTechTips is an exception to the rule. Most YouTubers are just brainrot, and unfortunately, that’s what most kids like. I say this as the brother of a gen alpha brat who my parents are struggling to tame.

So some of those cheap jbl 30$ headphones are small and work quite well for childeren. Nothing special at all but good enough. Also not absolute crap like most kid headphones.

Do make sure you keep volume in check easy to go overboard with that

You are literally in the gray zone of Gen Z and Gen Alpha. And much too young to even have an idea of what brainrot is because you're in the middle of experiencing it.

Like it's been said above, JBL makes some 'kid' versions of their more basic headphones, and I think there's a wireless version of those.

Their won't be anything stellar, but since it's just for gaming anyway, it should cover all the bases, especially since they're not too big to begin with. Just make sure to keep the volume in check, as it's also been said; those can be decently loud if the volume is all the way up.

Do not contact me outside of thread replies.

yep.  i was doing great as a parent until covid hit.  danm school board game them google accounts that had access to youtube, and wouldn't block it off as they used youtube with education material.  then worst yet, its not youtube kids, so was just bad overall.  kids swapped their laptops to access youtube (personal account had youtube blocked off) so they could watch brain rot crap.  Its not good.  thats why i prefer my kid playing switch than youtube when i can.

does the mics work?  and is latency an issue?  for me, i HATE seeing a gun shot and like, half a second later you hear it.

gaming with friends is way better than just youtubing all day for a kid.  also, the headphones, will they work well with a switch?  i'm not sure why nintendo wall garden the switch so much that they dont even make their own headset to work with it wireleess.  Its ridiculous.  I prefer 2.4ghz > bluetooth for latency issues too.

ya, i seen those, but worried about latency.  I know "gaming" stuff tends to just add extra cost without much quality, but in this case with bluetooth, i'm not srue if its something to worry about.

Bluetooth automatically adds latency and the switch doesnt have the best bt codecs so.latency is a given
