Feel free: To ask any question, no matter what question it is, I will try to answer. I know a lot about PCs but not everything.

current PC:

Ryzen 5 5600 |16GB DDR4 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1080 ti [further details on my profile]

PC configs I used before:

  1. Pentium G4500 | 4GB/8GB DDR4 2133Mhz | H110 | GTX 1050
  2. Ryzen 3 1200 3,5Ghz / OC:4Ghz | 8GB DDR4 2133Mhz / 16GB 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1050

Best to avoid 13th-14th gen.

I hate that this is a thing now, but other than just losing performance, OP should go AMD. Also, we all are saying 12th gen is safe, but 12th gen also has failure rates, just no where near as much as 13/14th gen, who like actually have a problem now than just defective chips.

It all just clearly seems like a degrading issue. I mean seriously, 400 watts and 1.4+ volts through such small holes in some piece of silicon is truly physically aggressive. That is why lower TDP processors are not having this issue. Actually, a 13400 is not even listed in the ones have the problem, and is considered as safe as the 12400. We just need to undervolt and power limit these power hungry processors. Reducing max clock speed by a couple hundred MHz will help a lot, especially that the voltage will be lower. And proper cooling is also important too keep the voltages and power usage low.

What I would recommend for those with an already degraded chip and want to get it working, is to increase the voltages, and disable C states, but of course to not degrade it further, just limit the clock speed and undervolt if possible. If I really had one, I would even go scanning deeper and see if a particular core is degraded and causing the issues and then either just disable it or reduce its clock speed or just increase its voltage just a little bit.

PLEASE MARK COMMENTS AS SOLUTION IF SATISFIED!!

bigger number better, makes me look cooler.

Not wise to separate budget amounts for individualsl components.

Why not post your total budget and we can work to build a nicely balanced machine?
