Hi,

It has come a time when I actually need a laptop that I can take with me to work and my now quite old Acer with a battery life of nanoseconds just won't do anymore. I'm looking for advice and opinions on what to get. I'll try to explain what I need from a laptop.

-I mainly it for just normal office work and taking notes.

-I need it to be portable and easy to use on the go

-Good battery life

-Good build quality

-I do want to play some games on it from time to time but I do not demand anything more than a playable experience, I don't mind turning down graphics. I mostly play Dota2,Civ 5 V, Chivalry, Diablo 3 and other games that don't require that much.

I don't have a clear budget at the time but I do not mind paying more to get a high end laptop if there is clear benefits to it. I don't need it immediately so if there's something interesting about to be released I do not mind waiting a bit. I hope my vague description was helpful in some way, please come with advice and own opinions.

Retina MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. Those are your more expensive options. They offer everything you want for a reasonable price as long as you don't get i7 and 1TB SSD like I did.

Thanks for answering.

I have looked at the MacBook Pro and the Air but i'm a bit unsure about them since i've never used a mac as a daily machine before. But they do both check most of my demands and often hold their value much better than an ultrabook. But at the same price I could get a high end ultrabook or a convertible laptop like a Yoga 2 Pro or something like the new surface pro 3.

But I would probably be looking for a 13".

Ok well the Yoga is good. The new Surface is quite expensive but a great machine. It really depends on what you want. You can also install Windows on the Mac if you have a copy.

MSI GE40 14inch gaming beast that packs a punch of hardware 760M and a core i7.

Might look that up buddy

I can't seem to find it anywhere here in Finland. I'm slightly unsure about getting a gaming laptop, wouldn't integrated graphics still deliver a playable experience?

It's not easy to predict how useful a touch screen or "tablet-mode"  would be. I don't really know how big a change it would be to try a mac when i'm used to W7 but then again all the other laptops have W8 which also is quite a big change.

Windows 8 is much closer to Win 7 than OS X. The touchscreen on a laptop was never a huge thing for me but that is purely subjective.
