Yes. Considering that most h610 motherboards come with DDR4, so o the only thing that I need to check is the compatibility and the nvme right?

Yes. I think most, if not all H610 motherboards have at least 1x M.2 slot, some have 2x, though they're likely to be PCI-E only (version 3.0).

Hi! I have a pc with an i5-6500, and there is another one I don’t use which has a 12400t. I was wondering if the 12400t would be removable, so I can get a cheap h610 for an upgrade.

I may be late with replies, I’m sorry beforehand.

edit: is a 12400t acually better than a 6500?

The 12400T is a socketed chip, so should be removable. However, the type of boards that feature them are usually both proprietary and have limited power delivery, so it's unlikely to be usable in a different case and probably can't handle higher power chips.

But I was looking for the cpu, not the motherboard, so can I use it like a normal desktop cpu?

i mean its just like any other cpu just a low power version so yes you can though im curious how far itd overclock when paired eith a b660/b760 pg riptide since it is a 12th gen non k chip

Sure. And as a bonus, it will work in literally any LGA1700 board, even if the power delivery is absolute garbage. And any compatible cooler will also be sufficient.

However, while it should be faster than your current CPU, it's not going to be as fast as a regular 12400, especially in multicore.

Yes, it is much better.

For a start, it just has more cores (6 cores versus 4) and hyperthreading (12 threads versus 4). It is also much faster, with a significantly higher single thread and multithread performance (6th-10th gen have similar per-core performance, but 12th gen is 20-30% faster per core than 10th gen).

If you're a gamer, then to put it another way, there are games that the 12400T will play smoothly, that the i5-6500 struggles to achieve a consistent playable framerate (assuming your graphics card is sufficient).

If you're not a gamer, then a long run workload would be completed more than 3x as quickly, so it is a big deal there too.

So I can just get a cheap h610+the cpu+the nvme and that would be fine?

P.S. I have a gtx 1070

Yea.. so I wouldn’t be using it for heavy multicore, just casual gaming on my 1080p monitor and some light ms word.

Yes, but you'd need a DDR4 board, not a DDR5 board, because I assume your i5-6500 has come with DD4 memory, right?

I'd also double check that the 12400T is on the motherboard support list, but I'm 99% sure it will be.

Yes, thank you for your help! This will definitely be my next upgrade.

In that case, outside of certain CPU intensive games that want to leverage more than 2-4 cores, like Cyberpunk, it should perform very similarly to the regular 12400.

And even if it's not as fast as the regular 12400, in CPU intensive games, it should be miles ahead of your current i5 CPU. I'd imagine if you ever tried to play Cyberpunk on your current system, it was probably a total stutter-fest. The 12400T would be way better in that regard.

FYI: you might want to check B660 and Z690 before you buy H610, because sometimes they're discounted pretty nicely, since they have been replaced by the 700 versions.
