Budget (including currency): a bag of day old cheeseburgers

Country: Republic of California

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming, VR, Simtools, Various input devices (SimRacing)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Windows in getting a little too bloated and invasive, so I'm considering a swap to a Linux based OS for the next build.

Questions:

Is their a Linux OS devloped enough for PC gaming? (As in supports most games, has VR support, 2ndary app compatibility, and various controller support)

Is running Intel on Linux a waste? I'm confused by the P core E core scheduling... is it controled by the BIOS, firmware or OS?

Thank you in advance.

I'd recommend watching the linux challenge that ltt did so you can get the whole spectrum of why linux is good and bad for gaming/using in general.

in short , is was POSSIBLE for linux to be a daily driver and game , but the experience of troubleshooting it is a nightmare.

It is controlled by the CPU scheduler, which is part of the OS. Heterogeneous CPU architectures are supported on Linux. For best compatibility you'll likely want a distribution that comes with a fairly recent kernel.

I'd try dual booting, rather than going by other people's impressions. Select a distribution, install it on a partition alongside Windows (or a separate drive), get gaming, see how you like it.

Some time ago I wanna get my feet wet on Linux, used a dual boot with Mint, it was fine, rather easy to use, yet it's Linux, hello console 😛

Okay, I'll watch the vid and shop various distributions for one to try. No experience like doing they say. Thank you for the helpful answers, much appreciated 🤜🤛🏾

Anyone using VR+simtools and intel>11 that can recommend a specific Linux D, help save time of testing some that may just be headaches?
