Worth updating bios?

Go to solution Solved by daygeckoart,

Yes, always keep your BIOS updated

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You do not need to update your bios all the time.

The only times it is worth updating the bios, is if you're upgrading your CPU to a newer one that isn't supported on the BIOS you currently have, if you are experiencing some sort of instability or if some huge vulnerability was discovered that can be exploited remotely.

Updating the BIOS on boards that do not support Bios Flashback is still a big risk to take if anything goes wrong while updating it.

There are usually improvements and patches for security stuff. The risk of something going wrong is exaggerated. I've been updating the BIOS with every version on every computer I've had since at least 2000 and never had it fail!

And I've had a B450 bios update(on my current board) fail midway randomly and would've bricked my motherboard had it not have bios flashback through USB. It's all subjective. Just because you never had issues, doesn't mean it never happens. Not saying they happen all the time either. Updating the bios is not something I would recommend to someone who would even ask this question.

Some motherboard manufacturers don't recommend updating bios unless you have explicit reason to, if it unlocks support for something or some feature you've been wanting.

Yep. Exactly. This is what Gigabyte has to say about it:

The whole BIOS updating procedure should be treated with extreme caution. If you do not encounter any system instability or bugs with the current BIOS version, we suggest that you keep it. If you determine to flash BIOS, you are taking a personal risk of BIOS flash failure.
