Do i have false hope for this tv or should i look into buying parts?

I found this tv secondhand for dirt cheap with the hope that i can repair it.

The screen flickers for 20 seconds afterwhich it seems normal for 20 seconds. These intervals are timed and exact which makes me feel as if its a faulty cable or a board issue.

I tried not overloading the screen by setting everything to minimum and factory resetting.

Flickering intervals

Let me know if i should give up and scrap it or invest in parts.

first see if you can update the tv.
could also go into settings and turn off or on the extra stuff (like vrr etc)
adjust the contrast and brightness etc
if nothing above changes anything it could be a control board issue (if thats what its called that controls the oleds)

It has the newest update it can find through its auto update function and

I tried disabling all "features" and it does not change a thing which makes me believe its hardware related.

I am somehow looking for confirmation that it is not a broken screen afterwhich i will definitely be opening it up and have a look at boards.

The attached image are the boards that it contains where the powerboard is unavailable due to no supply

i dont think its a power board issue...its geting power. im guessing its a board that controls the oleds themselves....if im reading it right. its the driver board that needs replaced "

  1. Flickering.
  2. Buzzing.
  3. Lights becoming brighter or dimmer than usual.
  4. Lighting failures either permanent or temporary.
  5. Lights burning out sooner than life expectancy or warranty."

if it was the tcon board youd have "gentle white flashes, intermittent colored lines, or a screen full of random patterns"

I agree, it could be the t-con board that gone bad on this TV, usually it happens with age but it doesn't look like a screen issue.

My opinion and best way to get the board "cheaper" is, open the TV (if u are willing to lose the warranty and comfortable doing so) then check the number on eBay and buy one that fits a 65" LG or philips TV (all OLED run LG screens, so it should be fine) "unless its QD-OLED then samsung screen but those are rare these days"

@Faried see this and hope it helps

from someone who repairs TVs daily and has some experience

Edit: looks like a 2019 model, a C9 or a CX t-con board should fit just fine, as they are the same models not much difference (still check the numbers on the board should start with 6870c- or similar)

I really appreciate all the information!

A local tv repair man said its hopeless to try and fix oled tvs but something is bugging me that the screen is not at fault.

I will be looking into boards however which board is more likely to fail as both of your comments suggest either the tcon board or the driver board. I assume both board cant be at fault at the same time as that would not give an image at all.

the driver board is fine, usually its the t-con board that goes bad on these, plus they are fairly common and not as expensive on eBay as well just have a look and make sure you match the numbers and make sure its for a 65" model too

i was going off info i found. since @theWutofWat actually repairs them then id go with his suggestion. besides looking both the boards dont seem expensive. hell getting both boards under a hundred and it fixes the tv seems worthy to try

I believe the "controller board" is for the ambilight and not really anything special, seen them on a few TVs and they generally don't go bad or have any connection to the panel itself really

  • 4 weeks later...

I got to opening up the tv and found the Tcon board.

It has an empty socket which i find weird. (See image below)

What is that socket for and are these boards not designed towards the appliance?

I noted down the part number and have it ready to be ordered.

Do i need to check up on anything else before ordering the board? Themal pads or anything?

Complete image as a sanity check.

Boards are produced to be used in multiple lines of products to save on mfg cost. Not all tv's use all features so it is common to find unpopulated connectors/components.

Can't say what that connector is for, but it isn't something to worry about.

Update: Installed the new tcon board and the issue persisted. It might be a cable issue towards the screen or a controller board for the screen itself however nothing looks weird or smells burnt.

I am giving up on the tv and reselling it.

Any last tech tip?
