Worse performance in CS2 since upgrading CPU (5600X to 5700X3D)

AlexB_-

So CS2 optimization is shit and I wanted more fps and better overall stability since I recently bought a 360hz OLED monitor.

Based on this video I decided to upgrade my CPU from a 5600X to a 5700X3D because the benchmark suggested I would get much better performance than I currently have.

Full Specs:

CPU: 5600X -> 5700X3D

PSU: SF600

RAM: 16GB x2 @ 3200Mhz

GPU: EVGA RTX 3080

MOBO: MSI B550I (with latest BIOS dating 01-2024)

OS: Freshly installed Windows 11 Pro

Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S

Game settings: All low, 1440p. I even tried 1080p and still got lower than 200fps which I don't think should ever happen with these specs.

I monitored my temps and they are fine (hovering around 60-70).

Problem:

I noticed my game would have worse FPS drops and worse overall perceived smoothness. I noticed if I moved around (left and right with the mouse) very fast, I would notice atrocious spikes in frame times (sometimes above 12, I rarely got over 8-9 before). Also, my fps would go from 500 to 300 randomly which made the game almost unplayable. This behaviour did not happen before with my 5600X.

My insight

- The benchmark I used is lying or is misleading in some way

- There is something wrong my CPU unit (is that even possible?)

I have no idea where to go from here. Please help 🙂

Dont ever trust a random youtube channel that isnt showing specs, setting etc.

5600x to 5700x3D is a decent bump but not really worth it imo.

Are you doing any PBO tuning? I use PBO2 Tuner (program you can download), -25 to all the cores, 120W PPT, 80 TDC, and 110 EDC. That should help stabilize performance a bit.

Also make sure you put the fan speed to 100% when playing cs2, it can easily get pretty toasty on the x3D chips. I use Fan control for that.

or bit more aggressive fan curve would probably help too if you don't like too much noise

Agree with the above, just because its theoretically better it isnt a huge jump at all... not really worth it.

that said, did you update *all* drivers, BIOS, chipset?

their FPS aren't also consistantly near 500, though theirs might drop less often, might be due to PBO or some configuration,

Have you optimized your system, like turning off virtualization or memory integrity, or disabling MPO (multiplane overlay)?

Made sure your RAM is running XMP (DOCP)?

never thought chipset drivers were necessary since windows 10/11. All I did was install the latest BIOS because the version I had dated all the way back 2020.

For clarification, I also enabled XMP so my ram is running full speed.

not even close to toasty, hovers around 70. should this be a sign?

chipset drivers can make a huge difference  (but not necessarily)  so definitely try that.

Also I'm just noticing... EVGA 3080? they're known to overheat, and quickly...

i would very thoroughly check temps (use afterburner overlay) while playing a game, *especially* the Vram if that's possible.

Vram is likely to be significantly higher...
