I am having an issue with my new ASUS X670E-I and the use of a riser cable. My MOBO will only push Gen3 speed to my 3090TI even if I set it to Auto or Gen4. I have gone through 2 riser cables and nothing. I am in a bit of a pickle since I am stuck with a Lian Li H20 case which requires a riser.

Am I just SOL when it comes to Riser Cables....I have heard they can be a like that sometimes.

Or can anyone help?

no, the 3000 series is gen 4.

Gen 5 riser?  I've never used / seen people use those.  Maybe get a Gen4 cable, and see how it works?

(That gen5 cable also seems VERY spendy for what it is)

Not according to Nvidia, they have it shown as a Gen3 card. Of course the manufacture themselves could be wrong.

Second:  you're wrong.  This is from NVidia's site:

I FU'ed and you're 100% correct. How I missed it is unthinkable and I even double checked not only what I read and also what I write.

Has never been and never will be a Gen3 card.

They can be and usually your only recourse is trying another one. I prefer the model from Loque, tried and true. https://louqe.com/products/cobalt-rc260-twinax-gen4-pci-e-4-0-riser-cable

A Gen5 capable riser cable is a waste of money as it provides no additional benefit and could likely be the source of the problem.

why are you using a 5.0 cable when your card is 4.0? that's just asking for it, and the solution should be simple.

I have a Linkup Gen4 arriving today. The Lian Li H20 came with a Gen4 and my MOBO wouldn't even post if I used that. Hence the reason I went Gen5. I also ordered the Louqe one as well. Though I bet that will take some time to arrive...and if it will even fit in the H20.

My ultimate goal is to fit a water-cooled 5090/5080 in the Lian Li Case. I am using the Thermalright AXP90-X53 Full 42.58 CFM Cooler for my 7800X3D and I very surprised how well its working. Though it can be a little noisy.

So I have tried numerous Riser cables and none of them fixed the issue. I decided to set up a test bench. This way no riser cable...and I am having the same issue. Windows shows that max speed is 4.0, but the GPU will only max out at 3.0.

Does anyone have any insight on possible BIOS settings, windows, or Nvidia settings that I could be missing.  The BIOS has an "Auto" or 1,2,3,4 or 5 PCIE speed option and I have tried all.

Also, I am using 12VHPW cable, I did confirm that the card will pull the full 450W, as not rule out not sufficient power as the culprit.
