We've already had a similar thread from someone else but if it was me in my quest for more power then it would be the video card now and the SSD later

If you can deal with your current gaming performance, get a ssd.

If not, upgrade your gpu.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

Yeah thinking of the r9 280x for the gpu and the Samsung 840 evo for my SSD but not too sure on which i should get right now and wait on the other for later on. thanks for any input.

what resolution do you game at? do you even play AAA games? I would go with an SSD in my case scenario if that were my build.

i would go for ssd. Are you considering upgrading your system soon? I would say that cpu would botleneck a 280x to some extend. Don't quote me on this, i'm not really aware of those cpu's exact performance but even me, having a 4670k+280x feel cpu bottleneck (rarely).

Still, would recommend a decent ssd. You can use it on a future build.

I would get an ssd, the 560 ti isn't too bad. Is the gpu giving you a hard time in gaming though?

Are you having problems with the 560ti? If not then get the SSD.

Although, if you are having problems running your games with the 560ti, get the new GPU. Seems like it would give you a bigger boost in performance than the SSD.

Its struggles in some games namely the ones i play on a regular basis BF3, TF2 (lol), and some call of duty games i kinda like the GPU its quite fun to mess around with. But it has the stock cooler and in Nvidias infinite wisdom they limited the minimum fan speed to 40% and it does not drop even when it is currently idling at 35oC. The main reason for the new graphics card is the fact that my freind is getting a pc soon and i want to make sure that i can run every game he can but thanks for the input based on the replies i will definitely be going with the 280x.

I play at 1080 and tend to play AAA titles on a regular basis but it tends to struggle with most but im leaning towards the GPU as i will notice the performance gain whereas the SSD will only really benefit me when booting into windows or opening an application.

Don't get me wrong but those game are mainly CPU bound. A 560ti is still a decent card to play few games up to 1080p.

What seems to me here, and im almost positive of it, is you cpu making you have bad performances.

I would consider upgrading cpu+mobo before upgrading GPU. If you buy a 280x, you will have it sooo sooo limited at most times.

alright, then a new GPU is your answer.

that is why we asked what type of games. AAA games are games like watch  dogs, BF 4 CoD Ghosts. etc.. those are GPU intensive and while a 560 Ti will "work" I believe he doesn't want to reduce the visual quality of his games.

It's true that the GPu may be bottlenecked but this would most likely be in specific CPU bound games namely the battlefield games but i think that the 280x would be enough for a couple which i would probably bring with me to another build by adding an additional for crossfire.

Yea, with your situation I would definitely go with the new GPU. Then you can save up a little bit and get the SSD a little later.

And maybe you can fold with the 560ti or sell it in the classifieds section.

Most likely ill sell it to subsidize some of the cost of the new card as well as the fact that my psu wouldnt be able to handle both lol and well i haven't got another pcie 16x slot bu anyway thanks for the input.

Honestly i would rather have it limited in some games and have a fps increase in most games if i do find that it is bottlenecked majorly then ill prioritize a platform upgrade but for now i think ill survive.

You are not considering that he has a somewhat weak cpu. Also, BF4 and CoD ghosts are heavy on cpu.

It's the same for bf4, you can look it up. He would benefit from a 280x, ofc he would but his cpu is somewhat weak. I just pointed the cpu aspect of the thing because it's what jumped to me when you mentioned weak performances on a 560ti (still a decent card in my eyes)

I know they are CPU intensive, however he will be able to game a lot better upgrading from a 560 Ti and even if he upgrades his entire rig later he can still use the GPU. the 560 Ti is by no means weak, but it can't pull great performance at 1080p once you try cranking up the anti aliasing. the 1 gb Vram is a very limiting factor especially in games such as BF 4.

also keep mantle in concideration. besides a Titan will definitely be bottlenecked way more. but I think he would reach around that 40 fps avg on the 280 which imo is very playable.

also if that's the performance they get from a titan and my CPU they suck. They should mention which OS they are using, I'm willing to bet it's windows 8.

i know. what im trying to say is, even if he buys now a 280x and goes play bf4, he wont get constant 50 fps anyways. It's up to him anyways, i only wanted to bring the cpu point up. I'm not disagreeing with any of you.
