Title bar too thick in Windows 11, icons too large.

Go to solution Solved by Tan3l6,

Found the soution:

https://www.elevenforum.com/t/please-help-application-title-bar-font-too-large.9794/post-303210

The problem might have occurred because I'm using latest 11 Insider Dev version.

Just noticed some programs title bars are too thick.

I have StartAllBack installed but that does not seem to include an option to resize that element:

If I understand correctly, you want the whole title bar width to be reduced.

Try the method in that link

Yeah, already tried it, the corner icons are still too big.

I see.

I tried mucking around with Winaero Tweaker in my VM just now.

Reduced title bar height to 10 & font size to 8 in WinAero Tweaker

This is how it looks like.

VM window was set to 2560x1440, fullscreen mode if that matters.

Mind you I don't daily drive that. I was just trying stuffs due to curiosity

Based on what I can observe at a glance (sorry, 3AM here, not gonna try to go in depth at this hour)

Seems Windows will auto adjust the height based on the title font size (May also be affected by other stuffs aside from text, like tab size or search box size, idk)

The default font size is Segoe UI size 9 IIRC

As to what the option in WinAero Tweaker changes in registry, it's CaptionHeight & SmCaptionHeight. As well as CaptionFont if font was changed.

Here's what it looks like in my VM after changing Font size to 3 in Tweaker, and manually changing CaptionHeight and SmCaptionHeight to -30 in registry (lower than minimum setting in Tweaker)

After making font bigger in:

Seeing no improvement I reset it to 100%, but the corner icons stayed even bigger than before 😄

You mean the font for the title bar ?

You need to change it through registry, it's in hex. Simpler to just use WinAero Tweaker since it has GUI.

If you want it to be lower than 8 (lowest option in Tweaker for font is 8), then just manually type a lower number.

That's how I reduced the text size to 3

I think you basically gave the solution earlier, but the elevenforum-s solution was a tad faster to implement. That's the only reason I marked my own post as a solution.

Any case, thanks for helping to find the solution!

WinAero Tweaker looks to be a useful tool.

Tested - the Window title bar height is the option that was indeed causing the problem. Default is at 22 as on the screenshot:
