Hey guys I'm buying a new pair of headphones that my boss (professional audio engineer) has highly recommended to me, Beyerdynamic DT150's, however after thinking "hey I like these" I realized I would need a sound card with a 6.35mm jack? I think.

Do I need a sound card for these headphones if so what one would you suggest?

doesn't have to be lah-dee-dah but would like an improvement on my on board solution

also I don't want anything external tbh wouldn't mind looking at a few suggestions but would prefer a PCI-e based sound card because I like having more STUFF inside

Thanks,

Cally G Killa

Ok ok I see this advice and thank you, BUT I HATE THESE THINGS, I also forgot to mention that I want a sound card also which means that I don't want this stuff, so any suggestions for a sound card that will work with this is good but i don't want to use these things.  Thanks anyway :D

Hey I don't hate money.  I just don't like those small dongle things. Personal preference.  I now realize more information should have been said when posting this topic.  Like I said my boss recommended these headphones to me.  My boss being an audio engineer at a music production studio where I also work.  I have recently been asked to do some additional work at home involving music and I would like to get a sound card that would work with these headphones.  Sorry if I sounded like a douche i did not mean to.

Hmm might look into that :D thanks bro.

sorry again if I upset anyone but I just wanted recommendations for a decent sound card that would work with the Beyerdynamic DT 150's.  I am already aware of what might be better or what other options I have but I just want a sound card.  Thanks again for all the advice it is quite helpful :D.  Did not realize that this was a hot topic for people to tell me why I am wrong :S (again not sounding douche-y just light hearted banter type stuff).

Thanks

EDIT: also I have limited desk space so an external DAC might be troublesome but still thanks for any suggestions :P

OOooooooh looks nice :D any good? I do love me some ASUS :) thanks bro I'll look into that

Not as good as external solutions. About the same or worse than that Syba dac for $40. Sound cards are all extremely overpriced for what they are. You can spend $200 or more on a sound card and it won't beat an external solution that costs less than half of that.

Ahhhh....I'm late....

Anyhow, that's pretty much what I wanted to say, anyway. It's just that the OP insists on a sound card that have 1/4" analog out.....

OK OK.  I know its dumb but I do want a sound card.  I feel asthough my PCI-e lanes are useless.  I do not know of any high quality DAC's available.  I use my PC to do high grade audio engineering and gaming.  The assumption in my head is that a SOUND CARD makes the SOUND BETTER (i know that is incorrect within itself i am using it in the broadest sense).  Any high grade DAC or sound card suggestions are welcome (or both).  I would like to not be told or assumed to be stupid.

Thank you.

Thank you.

That syba dac/amp would be a good solution without costing a lot of money. Something better would be an o2/odac external amp/dac but the quality difference isn't very high. You can either get the combo or just the o2 standalone and save a bit of money. It's definitely not as noticeable as getting better headphones.
