This Week's Switch 2 Info plus a breakdown at previous info

PastaPain

Nintendo Switch 2 reportedly has magnetic Joy-Cons, new cartridges, larger 1080p screen

Chinese peripherals firms also claims next console will still be backwards compatible with all games, controllers and docks

  1. The Switch 2 will continue to support existing Joy-Cons and the Pro Controller, still equipped with ALPS dual-axis linear motors for HD rumble.
  2. The cartridge slot of the Switch 2 will support backward compatibility with physical Switch game cartridges, ensuring compatibility with players' existing game libraries, including digital versions. However, the second-generation cartridges may not be compatible with the first-generation console.
  3. The new version of Joy-Con has a larger volume, and the sliding rail structure has been changed to magnetic suction. The SL and SR buttons are metal buttons. Magnetic suction is achieved through electromagnetic suction technology, controlled by electric current. It's worth noting that, in addition to the L, ZL, R, and ZR buttons on the sides of the Joy-Con controller, a third button has been added on both the left and right sides.
  4. Additionally, below the HOME button on the right Joy-Con, there is an additional function button!
  5. The bottom of the Switch 2 will still feature a USB-C port for docking, and the new generation dock will undergo minor changes in appearance while enhancing performance, supporting 4K resolution.
  6. The new dock will feature a damping bracket on the back, allowing for a greater range of adjustable angles.
  7. The screen will be upgraded to an 8-inch display, supporting 1080P resolution

it will use Samsung and Nvidia

  1. Tegra T239 - produced by Samsung Foundry 7LPH
  2. Display - Samsung OLED
  3. With the exception that LCD models may be released first (using Sharp Display)
  4. The console is expected to support NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction
  5. will also have hardware ray tracing capabilities, thanks to its GPU architecture), but not DLSS Frame Generation.

Past Info

  1. VGC reported in February that Nintendo had internally delayed the launch of its next-gen console from this year to early 2025.
  2. One publishing source suggested the delay was so that it could prepare stronger first-party software for the console, while others have claimed the move was made to avoid potential hardware supply issues.
  3. Two sources VGC spoke to suggested that the console could launch with an LCD screen, instead of the more premium OLED, to bring down costs, especially considering the increased storage needed for higher-fidelity games. The current Switch comes with just 32GB of internal memory, while many current-gen PlayStation and Xbox games are over 100GB.
  4. Like its predecessor, the new Nintendo console will also accept physical games via a cartridge slot, the sources said. along this week from Mobapad
  5. In May 2023, Nikkei Asia claimed to have been informed by a source close to Nintendo that work on the company’s next console appears to be going smoothly. “Development seems to be progressing well,” they said. “But a product launch won’t happen before next spring at the earliest.”
  6. The Nintendo Switch 2 was reportedly demonstrated to developers at Gamescom last year, so it’s very unlikely we’re going to get a repeat of that leak again. Recent reports suggest Nintendo is now targeting March 2025 for the Switch 2 launch.
  7. Nintendo has a patent filed for an apparent dual-screen console that can be split in half and become two separate handheld devices. this was in the fall. The patent shows a device that resembles a 3DS but can be split in half for wireless gaming between two players. It also features a touchscreen on the outside for interaction even when closed.
  8. Nintendo has a new patent for what appears to be a Nintendo Switch dock with a rotating hub for its cords built into the back. For the longest time, the Nintendo Switch's I/O (input/output) port only pointed to the right (when the console side is facing forward).

  • 3 weeks later...

Knew a ton of this already, but it's awesome to see it collected into one place.

Honestly, I love that Nintendo is FINALLY allowing some backwards compatibility (BC) that'll really matter to consumers, especially considering that JoyCons are STILL like $80 for a set, which is just bonkers.  BC for the carts can possibly be as easy as the DS/3DS with a little notch.

My big question / issue is gonna be the specs.  It's shaping up like this is just gonna be a Switch Pro, but with new HW reqs.  If it's just a 1080p Switch, it's gonna be a hard pass for a lot of people.  I Kinda expect it at this point, and wonder if Nintendo won't do like they've done in the past (Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, and Switch), and release their new AAA titles for the new console when they're about to EOL the last one, basically pressuring via FOMO to buy the shiny new thing that won't have much else good on it for months.

ESPECIALLY with the $80 (US) price tag for a set of Joycons, while both Play$tation and Micro$oft somehow sell theirs for $60, and they're often on sale for lower, WITH better color options, battery life, and reliability.  (Though I'll fully admit I wish the PS5 controller had a little more battery, but it's fine for the average user)
