Wondering if my MSI PRO Z790-A WIFI will work with DT990 Pro's

Hi there hope u doing good,

right now I'm trying to get into some better headphones.

I looked around and found the company beyerdynamic. I'm not sure if i'm even settled on the DT990 Pro's (250 Ohm version),
i'm still looking so if you got some better for under 200 Euros please tell me.

I'm into gaming but i also wanna listen to music and watch movies so Sound is really important for me so i hope they work for that.
They also should be a little bit durable because sometimes my Headset falls of my desk...

Like i said i have the MSI PRO Z790-A WIFI as a Motherboard, it says it can do over 600 Ohms  but i'm not sure if it will sound good and if it's gonna have much disturbance.

I hope i don't need a Headphone Amplifier but if u got one for a good price please also tell me (Soundcard also works). But if it works good without one on my motherboard it would be really cool.

I'm sorry i really am new to Audio things so i'm not quiete sure how it all works.

If i decide for these headphones i would probably need a new mic so if you got a good standing mic which isn't as expensive like 60 euros or a bit more also tell me.

All comes down to how much the headphones cost because i got like  about 250 euros in total to spend on things :3.

I'm currently on a HyperX Cloud Alpha it's good but i want something better so yea :D.

I hope my English wasn't the worst, it's not my Motherlanguage and it's also pretty late for me right now.

Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

Sorry to dash your hopes, but yes, you ABSOLUTELY will need an external DAC to drive those cans. And by all accounts are pretty great cans.

Do you by any chance have some good Options in that direction? Sorry have no idea or rather no clue about dac's.
But you're saying that the DT990 pro's are a good idea to get?

I hear great things about all things Beyerdynamic, though I assume you're aware that they are open back so you'll hear a bunch of the noise in the room

I don't personally run cans that need a real amp, but my buddy who does swears by Schiit. The Midgard would probably be good for these

I have had the Beyerdynamic DT770s for 15 years and they still sound just as good as they did back when I bought them ( They actually came out in 1985! )

I absolutely love the quality and the softness of the earcups.

There is no wonder why the DT770s and DT990s are the most commonly used headphones by studio and music producers, they are absolutely fantastic.

I did run my DT770s of a standalone amplifier with a DAC inbetween my PC and the Amplifier.

But considering the price of a dac or headphone amplifier could the DT990 pro's work without it?

If you want to go with DT990's you probably will need an external amp, luckily amplification is a solved problem and most USB-C dongles push enough power needed for Beyerdynamic headphones. For sub 200 euro you can't get much better than the Sennheiser HD560S (assuming you want open back headphones) and they sound substantially better than the 990's, no big treble spike (i absolutely hate 990's because of how much the treble bothers my ears) much more detail and better imaging (in games sounds will sound much more "around" you) and best of all, no fixed cable.

Beyerdynamic get very overhyped, they used to be untouchable back in the day, but the modern market has surpassed every Beyerdynamic product out there. If you're not sure about open back headphones (or you just live somewhere noisy) then 200-ish euros is more than enough to get some of the absolute best closed back headphones out there

Look at these headphones:

- Sennheiser HD 560S

- Fiio JT1

- Beyerdynamic DT 990 80 Ohm

And these AMP&DAC dongles:

- Akliam PD4

- Truthear Shio

- Moondrop Dawn Pro

And top it all out with some decent IEM-s for gaming when you want to avoid gamer hair:

- Simgot EM6L

- Truthear Zero

- Truthear Nova

- Moondrop Lan

- QKZ x HBB

As for the microphone:

- BM700 or BM800 + a Phantom power

- a Fiio or similar desk mic

AKG K371, AKG K361, Shure 440A, Shure 840A and Rode NTH-100 are the closed backs that are actually worth buying. Of the bunch the K371 are imo the best sounding, Shure 840A are a very solid buy and Shure's customer service is outstanding for getting new earpads (AKG are really annoying to get replacement pads from) if you can see yourself doing some console gaming/ need to use a work laptop and need a headset the Rode's are amazing (they sell a NTH-100M that is just the regular NTH-100 with a detachable mic and mic capable cables) Shure 440A and K361 are cheaper than the 840A and K371 respectively, at your budget you can easily get a USB mic with leftover money and not need to worry about microphones again, I highly recommend the Samson Meteor, that little thing is nigh indestructible and the manual is invaluable for learning how to use a microphone if you ever wanted to try voice acting or singing vocals.

Yeah the HD560S are pretty high sensitivity, a lot of people talk about ohms in headphones being important, sensitivity is the number you need to look at, 100db and above is completely fine to run without an external amp, 95db-99db is where you might want to use an amplifier but they aren't strictly needed, 94db and below absolutely needs an amplifier. (For reference the 560S are 110db sensitivity, that is completely fine off just about anything)

For a gaming headset they're acceptable (as far as headsets under Audeze Maxwell go anyway) but a USB mic + conventional good closed headphones is far better, it's why i mentioned the Rode specifically, if you ever need a headset you can't get any better until you reach the Maxwell (100 euro over your budget minimum)

Hypoercloud makes decent bang for buck (on sale)
I personally run either M50X or Sony XM4 cans with a 100$ passive mic (ATZ2040) on a 100$ arm (PS1) plugged into a 100$ interface (UMC 204HD). It's a bit overkill, but it's rock goddamn solid

Thanks yall for the help so far i'm gonna deside between the HD560s or the AKG K371. I'll probably need a DAC/AMP for them later down the roade but yea don't wanna deal with that yet tbh. I don't have enough money right now to buy a good one anyways so yea.

Thanks yall.

You only need a headphone amplifier if you need to bring up the Windows volume very high (like 80%) to reach a comfortable volume.

You only need a DAC if you're getting a noisy signal from the headphone port.

The $9 Apple USB-C to 3.5mm dongle is the best DAC/amp deal in the audiophile world if you live in the US. It measures extremely well and surpasses many DAC/amps 10x-20x its price.

I actually testet the HD560S yesterday in a Media Markt and i got to be honest. I didn't quiet like them... Idk if they weren't connected the right way or if they were set up the right way but the music from them just sounded soulless and empty. Idk how to describe it but i just didn't like them.

That's the difficulty of audio. Beloved headphones don't sound amazing to everyone. I've demoed the legendary Sennheiser HD600 and HD650 headphones, and I don't vibe with the sound at all.

I'm a huge fan of the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80ohm. This specific model has more bass than the 32ohm and 250ohm variants.

Despite being a closed-back headphone, it has a large soundstage. I wear it for everything.

I don't like bright headphones (too fatiguing), so I probably would not like the DT 990 headphones at all.

The DT990 are open headphones so be aware everyone around you will be listening to them.. my wife will come from down the hall in another room to complain about noise leaking from my DT880 250Ohms.

If that is fine... I would encourage you to listen to the DT880 before buying the DT990 1st.    The DT990's are very bright and I personally can't really listen to them for very long,   The Semi Open DT880's are much more balanced in my view.

If leaking sound all around you isn't ideal then look for the DT770's which are closed back and have pretty good isolation.

I have a Z690 Aorus Elite AX and no sadly the onboard audio isn't going to get it for the Beyer's (I have DT770 Pro 80s).... I mean it will make sound and you could use it but you'd not get the full experience really.     Although now that I actually tried it again, it isn't that bad, had to crank the windows volume basically to max...   but It is actually listenable,  I would rather listen with my amp but it would be ~ok if I needed to use the onboard audio.

So you could buy the headphones and then later if you wanted get a amp later?      You can get this little Douk Audio U3 Mini for about 43 Euro on amazon Germany... it would probably have plenty of power for these....

One think that I quite like about having a desktop amp (in my case I have a vintage creek obh-11) is the volume control right at arms length without messing about with media keys (which I don't have) or messing with windows audio volume levels from task bar.

Honestly I am surprised how decent the audio on my Z690 is...       For a good time I like my DT770's with this vintage circa 1980 Pioneer SX-3600 receiver.
