Worth the upgrade? From Samsung G7 to Samsung Neo G8?

JorMij

Hello Everyone!

I have a 32-inch Samsung G7, and I'm interested in upgrading to a Samsung Neo G8.

Would this be a considerable upgrade? is it worth the money?

Currently, i can get it for $999 new, and once i sell my current G7 for about $450, the total cost to upgrade should be $680

Should i pull the trigger?

Do you have a 4090?

Like thats what you'll need to halfway somewhat drive that monitor.

Also its not really an upgrade as the overal quality of the screen is still just kinda meh.

If you want a better 32 inch screen plenty other options

I have a 3070ti, i don't need to run at 240 fps at 4k, im not hugely concerned with that.

If the community can recommend better screens, here's what im looking for:

  • Wide screen
  • Above 32 inches but no ultrawide
  • Great screen, with great viewing options
  • Ideally glossy screen
  • No OLED (Dont want burn in / text issues)

I've looked for a lot of different options and i can really only find the Neo G8 as the best screen 😞

Neo G8 is a wonderful display, but its a matte non OLED with terrible viewing angles. I've had one since release and I absolutely love it and don't plan on replacing it till we get 4K 480Hz OLEDs, but it has its limitations.

Neo G8 is basically on par with mid tier OLEDs, its got a 1M:1 contrast ratio, but it requires HDR to really work. Before I enabled HDR on it, its basically a good quality VA. HDR enabled, its basically a mid tier OLED.

4K isn't easy to drive, a 3070ti with only 8GB of VRAM is going to struggle to run textures above medium in most modern games. Tons of games will run fine enough on rasterization performance, but VRAM and memory bandwidth is a severe problem with 4K in most newer games.

I would pass and save up for a new GPU and monitor when you get enough to do both if you're looking at 4K.
