A question about a weird SSD benchmark result

Write speeds on my brand new (recently purchased) 2TB Crucial CT2000BX500 2.5" sata SSD look far to low. I noticed that it transfers files from any other drive (including pcix gen4 NVMe drive) far too slowly. Then I also tested my sata HDDs and their write speed was abysmal also. Could the issue be with my motherboard?

Read speeds are normal on all drives, only write speeds are terrible.

My configuration is:

MSI PRO B550M-P GEN3 (MS-7D95) (AM4)

RYZEN 5 5600

2x8 GB of Patriot Viper memory (currently working without XMP at 2666MHz) as I've noticed some instability when XMP profiles are enabled (although the ram is rated at 3200MHz at xmp1 and xmp2 profiles)

RX 5700

1TB Crucial P3 NVMe SSD as primary os SSD

2TB Crucial CT2000BX500SSD1 as data ssd

2TB SSHD Seagate Firecuda

750GB old WD Black HDD

750W PSU (80+ Gold) Cooler Master V750 (quite old now, i've already ordered a new Seasonic 750W semi-modular)

My BX500 1TB for comparison. Your writes do seem unusually low.

 

For starters I'd try a force TRIM and see if that helps. Run the Windows "Defragment and Optimise Drives" tool on the SSD, wait a bit, then run the bench again and see if it changes. May sure there is nothing else going on at the same time as the benchmark. The BX series are/were DRAM-less so writes can suffer if you write a lot and don't give it some time to recover.

 

Otherwise, if appropriate install/update chipset or storage drivers. Use Crucial's software to check if there is a firmware update for it.

check how is the write buffer cache in disk management set. 

But this looks about right, just that pSLC buffer run out... This looks like normal write speeds for 2TB  BX500, as that's a budget DRAMless QLC SATA SSD.  

your P3 is also a DRAMless QLC SSD, and it also suffers the same fate, and it's actually even slower

Yes I know they are both dramless, but I never experienced this low speed before (my old sandisk sata ssd was also dramless) and it had normal performance on old Asrock Fatal1ty 990fx Killer. And my mechanical drives have sub 3MBps random write speeds also. Also my bluray burner suffers from speed drops wile burning discs. I think my mobo is faulty (southbridge atleast). Sequential write on my discs is also too slow except on my nvme. That's why I thik it might be a southbridge issue. I'll try to put this ssd into my old i5 4690k based pc (still works with an Asrock z97 pro4 motherborad) and test it there.

 

PS: Retriming did increase random write speeds (both of them to around 10MB/s but that is still at least too low especiall non 4k random speed which should be arround 200.)

 

PPS: this is my p3 benchmark, what's expected from a dramless budget nvme drive

an update: it's the motherboard's fault. I've just tested the ssd on my older pc and it has full advertised sequential read and write speeds and much higher random speeds than on my newer motherboard. I will be returning the motherboard with a possibility of replacing it with a better model (I've already contacted the store I bought it in).

It's very unlikely, as the read speeds are ok. 

Mobo fault should affect both read and write speeds.
