Hey guys!

I am planning on using a GTX 780 in my upcoming build but simply cannot decide on which one to go for. Here are the ones I can't decide between:

ASUS Direct CU II

ASUS ROG Poseidon

MSI Gaming Twin Frozr

MSI Lightning (will have to change whole build so the colour scheme matches so only if it is worth it)

Gigabyte Ghz Windforce

EVGA Classified

EVGA Superclocked ACX

I will not be watercooling nor will I be overclocking so silence and good base performance is all I'm looking for.

EDIT: I should mention that I'm going for a Red/Black theme.

based on what?, color only?

as mentioned, silence and OCing. Everything on the list will go well with the theme except for the Lightning and the GHz

then remove those and buy the one that performs best, someone give to him. Lack of stewardship..

Go for an R9 290. It performs better than the 780 slightly and is cheaper as well as it comes with 3 free games. Like the PowerColor PCS+ R9 290

FANBOY OF: PowerColor, be quiet!, Transcend, G.Skill, Phanteks

FORMERLY FANBOY OF: A-Data, Corsair, Nvidia

DEVELOPING FANBOY OF: AMD (GPUS), Intel (CPUs), ASRock

I'd go CU II

I've looked at studies, and MSI and ASUS consistently have the best results. (surprisingly the HUGE Gigabytes aren't as effective as you'd think)

Is the R9 290 have the same gaming performance as the 780? because I've done a bit of research and a lot of websites say the 780 performs slightly better than the 290 when it comes to gaming. @Sonefiler

The MSI has better base clocks though and since I'm not OCing, I feel I wouldn't use the ASUS cooling to it's full potential @nosirrah123

Modern GPUs OC automatically, and they throttle themselves based on max temps and the present load, all you need to do is specify a maximum temp in the driver, and it does it. It's so simple, easy, and safe that it'd be stupid not to do it.

And the 290 has slightly better performance in most games, and it performs considerably better on multiple monitors or higher resolutions.

yeah I'm just going to use one 1080p monitor so idk.... maybe I might consider an R9 290(x) but which one do I get for that? I've heard the ASUS 290(x) is pretty good. The Sapphires tri x and lightnings are a little too pricey lol

Don't get the 290X, the 290 has 95% of the performance for like 100$ cheaper. I'd go for the MSI and ASUS coolers personally because they're some of the cheapest and most effective. I see that you're using one 1080p monitor, but with a high performance GPU like that, you might want to add on another screen or two in the future, but if you REALLY don't see yourself upgrading in the lifespan of this PC, consider going with a 780. The GPUs are pretty dang close in performance, so which feature-set is most interesting to you? Mantle, True-audio, and the AMD stuff, or Shield, Shadowplay, and all the Nvidia stuff? If you can't decide, keep in mid the 290 is 50$ cheaper, which is enough to buy 10 copies of Bad Rats!

yeah I'm going for the 780 because of Shadowplay which I feel is really cool and I won't be able to utilise AMD's high VRAM anyways since I'm going single 1080p monitor with a possible upgrade to 1440p later on but that's about it.

Well going up to 1440 is going to put the same amount of strain on your system as 2.5 1080p monitors, so you actually would be making use of the extra Vram. (The difference in fps is only up to 7-10 frames AT MOST though) But Nvidia has some really cool features, and I could definitely see someone sacrificing a little raw performance for them.
