Can I use 2x8gb ram that is 3200mhz and add 2x16gb that is also 3200mhz

Can I use 2 different pairs of ram even tho it's the same speed I've seen you can but all I'm seeing is 1x16 and 2x8gb rams my question is will it work better if you just have 2 of each pair  so 2x8gb=16gb 2x16gb=32gb which will make the total ram  48gb of ram

maybe? i think ive heard things about not getting full performance compared to having 4 of the same stick though.

For example if your memory is running in quad channel, i think youll only get the quad channel benefit for, in your case, the. first 8GB of RAM on each stick. so maybe performance will drop as you start using the last 16GB of your RAM (the last 8GB on each of the two 16GB sticks), but i dont know where i heard that or if its old info

Yeah, it should work fine with DDR4.

DDR5 tends to be a lot pickier, but you shouldn't have too much trouble here.

Caveat:  48GB won't be any different than 32, if you don't break 32gb.  And that's not common.

Yes in most cases you can do that. I'm running 8+16 in my laptop right now.

It should work.

What processor and motherboard do you have?

If you have an older CPU/motherboard, it is very likely to impact the top speed you can achieve.

Do you have 4 dimms in your laptop?

1 slot, 8 GB soldered, 16 GB added. If you want another example I ran 4+4+2+2 for a long time in a desktop.

I've mixed and matched different RAM capacities in my life, with funny amounts like 7GB, 10GB, 13GB and 17GB. All worked but speed was lowest common denominator.

yes you can! its just maybe you gotta run at lowest speed and maybe it doesn't work at all. but you definitely can!

personally wouldn't recommend it tho, unless you like tinkering with settings a lot.

Should work at default, assuming cas timing is same, and for better compatibility, are made by same manufacturer (even different manufacturer, just ensure that CL timing and voltages are same). One thing for sure though, do NOT try OC'ing or tweaking the RAM....
