What dumb tech idea should I follow through on?

Just genuinely looking for something to do so here is a list of horrid ideas I've had so people can vote which they would like to see me follow up on in detail, i have way too much time on my hands.

1: run a Minecraft/jellyfin server on a ps4

2:barbeque Sause thermal paste (still debating mentally, some dude told me to use mayonnaise or musterd so why not sweet baby rays)

3: speed test a 14 year old wifi card (ripped from hp netbook from 2010)

4: install an SSD in a Pentium system to revive it 🙂

still coming up with horrid ideas, but feel free to tell me what a bad person I am for coming up with these.

1) Sounds fun

2) You'll ruin something, it won't be worth it.

3) Unlikely you'll notice any difference from a modern card. 802.11N is still relevant.

4) What era of Pentium? We talking Pentium II or a crappy Pentium from 2021?

These aren't bad ideas (save for maybe #2), could have a nice time doing all three of the practical ones.

The only way I would do number 2 is if it is on a pc you never intend on using again.

If you look in the video archive, LTT (Alex and Riley) did diy thermal paste and mustard did surprisingly well but also resulted in a 7980XE being washed in a sink with soap and water to get it off.

Unless you are running 400+mbps internet, or transferring MASSIVE files over wifi, you likely won't notice any meaningful difference

With the speeds that an old Pentium is going to be restricted to (FireWire 1334?) it likely isn't going to make a difference especially with the IPC that that era Pentium is going to be utilizing.

Or if you really want to try out of morbid curiosity -

Cover the edges of the CPU, the edges of the socket, and the board bordering the socket in duct tape, electrical tape, or packing tape. That way when leakage happens it won't ruin anything. Start with placing the tape further from the socket and work your way in, so when you layer the tape, the sauce can't slip into the cracks.

You'll still have to give the CPU a big rinse afterwards, though, the IHS might be corroded by the water in the sauce, and it might permanently be red.

I was honestly curious to compare a modern Wi-Fi card with one I don't even know if it works, the Pentium 3 I believe, pc is just old and I just need a janky sata to ide adapter for a 20$ ssd of amazon just for fun or emulation, doesn't really matter just a maintenance thing really since the hard drive is just about on its death bed.

So... a CPU that'll run without a heatsink. Yeah, you wouldn't see interesting results anyway

that or i think i have an older LGA 1151 i3 i could tape up the socket of for testing, as I still use that OptiPlex the board is a part of, really just curious since musterd seems to work, why should BBQ Sause NOT work?

Also another idea would be running a node for Pi or Maneroo (very low resource crypto) on the Ps4, cause its gpu is about equivalent to an RX 480 4gb, Possibly worth a shot

It would work, but likely wouldn't be interesting on a low-power Atom CPU. The i3 would be a little more interesting but do that at your own risk

might get a separate board, I looked some older oem boards are being sold for like $10, I'm interested to see the difference in temps both idle and under load

My assumption is that the heat plus the sugar in the sauce would lead it to caramelize when it heats up and become impossible to clean. I'm having flash backs to a chemistry kit I got as a kid. It said to put sugar in a test tube and hold it over a flame. I never got it clean, I gave up and threw it away afterward. My love for chemistry died that day.
