Budget (including currency): $2,700.00 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Bethesda games, Minecraft, Cyberpunk, Star Citizen. Mainly want to be able to use this as a family gaming system.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Just wanted to get a sanity check from the group on my proposed parts list and if anyone had any input that may save me money, headache, etc. The parts listed below are above the budget I set (currently sitting at $3,156.83 USD) but ideally, the budget would sit under that 2,700 mark. Just take a look and let me know what you think.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D [391.00]

GPU: ASUS TUF RTX 4080 [1,489.99]

PSU: MSI MAG A850 Full Mod 80+Gold [115.99]

MOBO: ASUS TUF B650-PLus WiFi AM5 [212.00]

RAM: G. SKILL Trident Z5 DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) [217.99]

Storage*: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB PCIe Gen4 [179.99]

Cooling: Corsair iCUE H150i Elite [289.99]

Case: Corsair 4000D Teak [134.99]

Misc: Corsair iCUE LINK QX120 RGB Triple fan starter kit [124.99]

*I do have a Samsung SSD 2.5, as well as a WD 1TB Black and 3TB Green from my previous build that I could use instead of/or in addition to.

Microcenter nearby?

Some of your choices are head scratchers, honestly.  4080?  When the 4080 Super exists?  Pro SSD but no productivity?  Way overpriced Corsair AIO for a chip that barely warms coffee?

Try this as a baseline, tweak as you see fit.  it'll perform as well, actually better than, your list...

Didn't see the "teak" version, replace as necessary.

I don't understand complaining about over budget when the you intentionally add in over $300 of Unicorn Dung 🙂

Personally I think the Fractal Design North is the more attractive wood front case.

oh man, I built my first PC 10 years ago and that was really the last time I paid any real attention to what's what part wise, so I am largely just going with what is somewhat familiar to me, which is why I consult the oracles of the forum lol!

On a related note, the case from my first build is a Corsair Vengence Series C70. Would that case still work for the parts you recommended or should I stick with the LianLi?

Stay Frosty,

Also, I have a corsair HX1000i platinum PSU, could I keep using that instead of buying a whole new power supply?

You CAN, but it's not built for modern airflow.  It looks like it has hard drive cages and odd fan placement (best they could do considering).  I'd relegate it to a lower end build or a server/NAS.

Honestly, I'd rock that Fractal North.  It's a GORGEOUS case, I just picked up the XL version.  I put the Lian Li in there due to price, nothing more.  Cases are 100% subjective and your personal call.

But anything Fractal is my true recommendation if you want to spend for it.  So easy to work in, well thought out, just a pleasure to have.

Yeah, I just disassembled that PC 5 minutes ago, I don't think I want to build with it again lol. That Fractal does look stunning so that might win. That said, I saw the Tower 300 Matcha Green Micro-ATX Case, any thoughts on it? It makes for a nice display piece but it seems like it would be a bit of a puzzle to get everything installed properly. Though, that just may be my just being familiar with the more traditional cases.

No idea about them, but it's a micro ATX case that can fit a 420mm AIO 🙂

Need to measure the GPU and make sure it fits.  Good review of it...

Honestly, it's a stand up version of how I would like a regular case.  Long and low.
